Balls to Charlie Borman on the dakar.

I Just Rode from Essex to Portsmouth using A roads on my RXS100 in the pissing rain and most of it was in darkness. I got to pompey at 9pm and I'm still cold Smile My feet and hands where wet through and I improvised handlebar muffs out of carrier bags (looped one handle over the mirror and one over my wrist) I swear it's the most cold I have ever been.

Advice to newbie bikers like me...

If you going on a cold long journey wear waterproof top and bottoms and waterproof gloves (plastic ones) and waterproof booties. Even If it's not raining, because it keeps the wind out near enough completely and trust me you will be thankful.

Near come off twice both times almost losing the front. Once off a diesel spill and once on a slick manhole cover. (it had been worn away so it was smooth) I really am pissed off with the fact that both of these events could have been easily avoided if the government would clamp down on diesel spewing trucks and replace those covers when they get like that. You may say I should avoid it but it's not always possible If you have committed to a line around a bend.

Anyway rant over, what epic journeys have you done??

Manchester -> Falmouth 355 miles

the jaunt to Bristol was nothing special very fast and very cold

high lights....

seeing a guy on a Harley FLCH (I think) riding past me no gloves.

being burnt off by 5 bikers on their super sports near bodmin

Kind of boring after that , lots of iffy roads with no street lights and started to rain , you are correct though water proofs (which I put on in Bristol) do keep the wind chill down a bit..

My most epic ride is a totally pathetic Dolgarrog to Aberystwyth. A whole 80 miles that took 2 hours on my KLR600. It's all A/B roads though and over mountains a lot of the way. Highlights include totally stunning views, burning off many cars en route Twisted Evil and then panicking on the way home when it was dark and raining as there was an accident and a diversion down tiny country lanes and I thought it was totally lost but I actually ended up on exactly the right road for back home.

I fully intend to roadtrip over all of Wales this year. I have friends in Bangor, Aberystwyth, Newport, Cardiff and Swansea and if I'm feeling lucky I may even zip across to London to say hi to my sister! I can't wait and I just hope my bike is ok for it!

epic

adj 1: very imposing or impressive; surpassing the ordinary (especially in size or scale); "an epic voyage"; "of heroic proportions"; "heroic sculpture" [syn: heroic, larger-than-life] 2: constituting or having to do with or suggestive of a literary epic; "epic tradition" [syn: epical] n : a long narrative poem telling of a hero's deeds [syn: epic poem, heroic poem, epos]

. I don't really think our short stints in the cold and night really count as epid under that definition,
