Balls to Charlie Borman on the dakar.
I Just Rode from Essex to Portsmouth using A roads on my RXS100 in the pissing rain and most of it was in darkness. I got to pompey at 9pm and I'm still cold My feet and hands where wet through and I improvised handlebar muffs out of carrier bags (looped one handle over the mirror and one over my wrist) I swear it's the most cold I have ever been.
Advice to newbie bikers like me...
If you going on a cold long journey wear waterproof top and bottoms and waterproof gloves (plastic ones) and waterproof booties. Even If it's not raining, because it keeps the wind out near enough completely and trust me you will be thankful.
Near come off twice both times almost losing the front. Once off a diesel spill and once on a slick manhole cover. (it had been worn away so it was smooth) I really am pissed off with the fact that both of these events could have been easily avoided if the government would clamp down on diesel spewing trucks and replace those covers when they get like that. You may say I should avoid it but it's not always possible If you have committed to a line around a bend.
Anyway rant over, what epic journeys have you done?? ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

I like the roads with no street lights when it's dark and raining the real country lanes. I don't know why It's so.. I don't really know . ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

My most epic ride is a totally pathetic Dolgarrog to Aberystwyth. A whole 80 miles that took 2 hours on my KLR600. It's all A/B roads though and over mountains a lot of the way. Highlights include totally stunning views, burning off many cars en route and then panicking on the way home when it was dark and raining as there was an accident and a diversion down tiny country lanes and I thought it was totally lost but I actually ended up on exactly the right road for back home.
I fully intend to roadtrip over all of Wales this year. I have friends in Bangor, Aberystwyth, Newport, Cardiff and Swansea and if I'm feeling lucky I may even zip across to London to say hi to my sister! I can't wait and I just hope my bike is ok for it! ____________________ Now: '00 Kawasaki ZRX1100R - Past: '84 Yamaha DT125, '89 Kawasaki KLR600, '97 Yamaha XJ600N
