The only time my bike ever gets a wash (admittedly not that often) it is with a jet washer. Never had a problem other than drum brakes not working for a bit after.

Jet washed the bikes regularly without any problems as well.

For Yokos bike, how long is the fuel pump running for on start up? If it clicks for 5 seconds then turns off, and does the same on the next time the ignition is switched on then it is not pumping any fuel.

You said his bike wouldn't start after stopping at a set of traffic lights. Did the bike cut out of its own accord, or did he stall it (maybe because the engine was cold and wouldn't idle).

If the bike didn't cut out, a mate with a car and some jump leads would come in handy - Sometimes bikes can just be funny about not starting, and the only solution is to keep cranking them over till they give in. A can of easystart or equivalent tends to help as well.

Dude that sucks - a girl at work had a similar situation with her bike.

Her dad reckoned it was a damp thing I was told today - but it sounds exactly the same, except for her bike would catch for a moment then completely die.

Atleast you're sleeping in a nice warm place, and you're not in the middle of nowhere with no signal on your mobile, a fucked bike and the pissing rain.

If you bought it from a dealer then you will have a warrantyw ith it, so unless it's something consumable thats gone you won't have to pay a penny.

I had the same problem on my Bandit 400 all the time, with all that jerking aswell. Really did my head in. Having it serviced seemed to clear it up for quite a while, definately a carb problem.

Try cleaning the sidestand, make sure there's no shit around the top. I've heard of the kill switch not working properly when it's dirty, not sure if it powers the starter motor or not though with this fault though.

lol he rang me at 10pm when i was in a deep sleep and i turned my phone off.
I know that if fuel isnt going to the engine, the pump or whatever ticks VERY loud, or it did on my cbr.
