G/F is doing restricted bike test, what is the best bike?

I have passed my DAS and my girlfriend has done her CBT, she is into bikes but things that the DAS might be a bit much for her. She is looking to do the restricted test but get a bigger bike and get it restricted, what would you recommend?

I have a Honda CBR 600FY and she can sit on it fine, she is about 5Ft 4" so any help or a point in the right direction would be appreciated.

What sort of riding will she do and what sort of bike's does she like?

She shouldnt have too much problem with most modern bikes bar trailie styled machines. Taking a bit of padding out of seats may go to making her feel more confident on a bike though.

It won't be commuting, weekend trips etc. She is good on a 125 i think the weight of the bikes are putting her off doing the DAS not the speed. Crying or Very sad

cool, it has always stood out for me the only problem being is that i cant find anywhere to get an idea of how much the insurance will cost me, i'm only 19, but i have 2 years ncb.

hope you GF finds the bike she wants, i would say go for a 400 or 500 not a huge amount of power but more than enough to get you out of trouble if needs be.

I'd recommend she does the DAS, unless the reason not to is purely financial (i.e. she has her own 125 already, is doing the test on it and isn't willing to pay for any lessons). The test is just the same price.

The school's 500 was far easier to handle than their crappy 125. You've done DAS. Speak to her. Thumbs Up

Well i am 25 and FPTF garaged was 500, i had 1 yr NCB on a 125 but that does not count. Its 12th on insurance list i think classed as a sports tourer.

If shes old enough then do the das, cost wise there isn't much in it, she will still require the same amount of training which ever route (might be a few hours or it might be a few months).

If shes not confident enough for das then she's not confident enough to be on a 33bhp bike, so thats not realy a valid excuse. A few days training and she should be at home on a larger bike.

Stevie, unless your GF HAS to do the restricted test, she might as welll do the DAS, because the restricted test isnt any easier.

The restricted test is exactly the same, but you do it on a 125cc.

One other bennefit, is you can just turn up on your own bike.

I often regret not doing DAS (I was old enough), but I sort of did it all on my own 125 route (like what all my mates & dad did years ago before DAS). I didn't have to do a weeks course and I did it with a couple of lessons only.

I have just over a year to go.

On the good side, my restricted ER5 is fine, it tops out at about 95, but it gets there very fast and I don't think there is much difference in the 0-60 with the restrictors in.

I am starting saving now for a new bike, by the time i've saved the 4K or so, my restriction will have ended.

Phone some insurance companies and ask them.

if shes scared of the wieght a 400 i would say, its fine when your moving but moving a bigger bike is VERY different to moving a 125 i found, and get a R+Gs for if you drop it when moving it, i did Rolling Eyes
