Walking with my workmate down the high street to get our lunch. See this Triumph Speed Triple (L reg) at the lights. Lights turn green, the triumph roars, almost at full throttle.... next thing we know, he's sliding along the floor! Not entirely sure what happened, but we think the throttle was stuck open. I say this because when it stopped sliding along the floor, the bike was spinning in random directions, with the throttle on the red line, so loud!

The bike went into the back of a golf and onto another car. The golf driver was so oblivious to their surroundings, they just drove off.

The guy had a few cuts and bruises, was shaken up, his knee took the brunt of it. Fair emount of damage to the bike, i'd say its a write off. Also turns out he's got no road tax or insurance...... Thumbs Down

That will teach him for no insurance, sounds like he didn't know how to ride a big bike?

I've been planning on oiling my throttle cable for ages. This pushes me over the line - it's getting oiled tomorrow morning.

Poor bloke. I bet if you asked him before "what happens if you throttle cable sticks" he'd have said "pull the clutch in! if worst comes to the worst, turn the ignition off too!"

Of course, until you get to that situation, you could know everything there is to know about bikes. If you panic in the moment and think "wtf!" it's all wasted knowledge.

Hope your Uncle recovers mate, and unfortunate for the guy on Triumph, but he should have had Insurance and Tax. But then again, lots of car drivers dont either.

Thanfully, friday 13th was Incident free on my bike, one stupid tosser, but i gritted my teeth and let it pass. Octobers my bogey month, always seem to crash in October Crying or Very sad Rolling Eyes

If the throttle sticks open on you on a cold wintery day try saying the same thing.

I would just hit my Kill switch, doubt it will happen on a new bike though with hardly any miles.

Thats a shame, and i thought we were gonna get through Friday the 13th without a hitch! Ive had the throttle stick open on me before, once while i was moving, once when i was at a standstill. When i was moving i managed to grab the cluctch and give the throttle a quick few pulls until the needle fell back into place. The othertime i couldent get it to fall back in, and with no killswitch on my bike i panicked for ages and thought about just getting off and letting the clutch out before it killed itself, in the end i had to reach in and pull the sparkplug cap off. Got shocked through my friggin gloves in'all, once i got it off it was still bloody managing to spark! It was resting ontop of the cylinder head so i grabbed a stick and poked it out! Neutral That was the longest mile ive ever walked home.

My bike has two throttle cables, one of which forcefully shuts the carb when you turn the grip, isnt this normal on all bikes?

Haha...I think everyone would think to do that mate, but you sure wouldn't have the time to do it. You could even say you'd pull the clutch in but whether or not you'd react in time is completely different.

i completly agrue, when my RS seized at 100mph i go the clutch in striaght away, the other day though i was going 20mph and lock up the rear and stalled (very strange as wasnt poor clutch control that did it) and didnt get the clutch into till i was stoped,

somtime you do somtime it just happens to quick for you to react i think Thumbs Up
