What bike for ?1000??

On the 14th feb ill have £1000 to spend on a new motor and obviously i want to get as much bike as i can for my money,I know its not a huge amount but if anyone knows of a nice motor 500cc+ ill be keen to hear from you.
The suzuki gs500 seems a good buy? bullet proof engine and generally cheap to buy but im open to suggestions and offers

I'd say a GPZ500S, it's what I'm after, and £1000 could well see you one with an alarm.

I was in exactly the same position as you and I came away with a bandit for £800.

If you start looking at sports bikes for under £1000 you could get a sports 400, but it'll be at the ratty end of the scale, and they can be a bit of a liability anyway.

CB500 aswell maybe, although for under a grand you're looking at fairly high mileage.

I'd go for a 500 twin, for the money you'd be able to get an ok one, if you try and buy something bigger you'll have to settle for a tatty one if you see what I mean...

They may not be exciting to look at but they're quick enough to be fun and do-everything practical Thumbs Up

I'd agree with the general consensus here. 500 twin seems to be the way to go. The CB500's hold their prices very well.
If you keep it clean and on top of servicing and look after it, an ER-5 will do you well (can you gues I had one?). You should be able to pick up a fairly new model for a grand.

I paid £900 on ebay last year for a 1992 Suzuki GSX600F in excellent condition with only 19000 miles. Have used it to commute to work for the last 5 months without any problems, which is more than can be said for the 2 stroke piece of crap that I had before ( that isn't a dig at 2 strokes, just the one I had).

Don't know if insurance is an issue but Autotrader says:
