just wanted to know if many of you use car oil instead of dedicated motorcycle oil .
i have always used castrol magnatec in my bikes ,

Car oils can cause the clutch the slip as they are not designed for that sort of use.
The best thing to do is use car oil in cars, and bike oil in bikes Shocked

Doddmaster is right (and what a shock it is to see him posting here - where the hell have you been?), car oils have all sorts of nasty additives that can cause clutch slip.

Suspect it's more of a case on more powerful bikes.

Had it on my 6r.

Have used cheap car oil when I had my dr600 no problems.

Note, that's cheap car oil.
I definitely wouldn't intentionally put expensive car oil with friction inhibitors in a bike again - would expect it will reduce clutch life even on smaller bikes.

I use high quality bike oil in my bike - for peace of mind if nothing else. The price difference in the cheap/expensive oil isn't big enough to risk using the cheaper stuff in my (admittedly limited) opinion.

It would be at the back of my mind everytime I wound the throttle on if I'd used cheap stuff.

It could be car oil for all I know, but really it's just mineral 10W40 at £3 a gallon. A CG engine needs nothing any better. My VT will be getting Castrol GTX I suppose, though that is £10 a gallon if you're lucky. One thing though, I do change my bikes' oils at perhaps twice the recommended frequency.

I think 125 clutches are sometimes just nabbed from bigger models, if this is the case, they can probably take a lot more abuse than most 125s will give out.

Even with all the slipping needed on most 125s, It's only very rarely that we hear about their clutches needing replacing.

i have never ,,and i mean never adjusted the clutch on my bike and i have done 30.000 klm on it ,, i know the cg engine is reliable .
but i dont think any other oil would make any difference .
difficult to prove unless you have several bike ,an a few years to do the testing i spose ..

Do you actually even slip the clutch much?

Never really heard of a cg clutch going - they don't really take much abuse at all due to low power etc.
I suspect that if we were talking maybe double that, yours would be more likely to go sooner.

Not really a problem for you on this bike, but definitely keep it in mind for a bigger bike.

You change the oil every 1000 miles on a cg with expensive car oil?

On my dr I was using £4.50 for 5 litres of asda cheap car oil -though it did drink it a bit.

well i do 5000 a year , and 5 lt of magnatec is £15 from a friend with a cash and carry store card .
..so it works out £15 a year to run on this oil .is that so bad do you think . Laughing
i now have just brought a new bike , another 125 as i like them ,and this time i think i might just use good old GTX or somethig like just to see if it fairs as well .
regards .,.,cliff
