on xmas eve I dropped my tt600, resulting in cosmetic damage, but it wdnt start either.

It was still running when i picked it up, but when i tried to start it, it went whirr-clunk and wdnt start.

I tried it a couple of more times before the recovery vehicle came but same thing.

At some point I was gonna get it to be fixed. I tried it about a week after the drop and it was still the same. Then this week, when I Pheonix (off here) came back to look at it after the pub, it started with no problem !

Obviously Im overjoyed that I dont have to get it fixed and shell out loads, but what was it that stopped it working.

I think I told Pheonix that I hadnt moved it since I tried it last, but now I think I had.

On my first ride after finding out that it worked again, it smoked a lot (oily blue smoke) for about a mile but was then clear.

Anyone know what the problem might have been ?

(thanks again to pheonix for his magical powers)

Was the starter motor spinning when you held the button down?

Which side did it fall on, the left? If so, was it just stuck in gear from the gear lever/shaft being knocked?

it fell on its right side
i dont think it was stuck in gear as the neutral light was on both when i cdnt start it and more recently when I could.

I have to pull the clutch in to start it anyway.

I havnt messed with the gears between it not starting and it starting.

I only tried to start it recently to show Pheonix the whir clunk noise and was amazed when it fired up first time.

When you were trying to start it on the side of the road, did you try bump starting it?

you may have knocked a tooth of a starter gear. Meaning if the engine stops with the gears engaged where the missing tooth is (so not engaged) it will whre and clunk(trying to engage).

But if the engine stops with all the teeth engaged it will start fine.

tilt sensor maybe? Presume they have one, blue smoke was probably a bit of oil passing the ring's from when it was on it's side, have you checked your oil etc? I also seem to remember marjay saying something about when laid down and still running the top end get's starved of oil on the TT?

drain and refill the oil immediately. Do so very carefully so as to remove any air locks.

The non starting may have been the sprag thing in the starter clutch. Apparently they can become jammed and prevent the bike from starting. Sometimes a swift kick is enough to loosen it.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

no i didnt try to bump start it. its fuel injection which as far as i know means you cant bump start it.

I have done an oil change on my rs125 but i had a free workshop manual to tell me where the drain plug was and where the filler cap was.

I dont have a manual with my tt600 so dont really know what to do. Can you describe or post a page from the manual ? Maybe i'll have a look, and post a pic marking the bits i think i need to mess with and you can say if they are the right ones.

I think pheonix was thinking something similar which is why he asked if I had moved it between it not starting and starting. I had thought I hadnt moved it but now I realise I had but nothing very vigorous.
