Hi guys, i've been looking around for insurance for an NSR125R for a 17 year old with 1 years experience.....it seems like a treasure hunt really. I've had quotes from £800 to £4500!!!!!

Can anyone recommend an insurance company.....or brag about their brilliant deal!

Also.....TPO, TPF+T or FULLY COMP??? Considering i'm poor but do't fancy loosing everything if my bike gets nicked

Have you already got the bike?

Sometimes claiming on TPFT can actually cost more than if you had had TPO and then not claimed when you bike was stolen.

(Initial extra + excess + insurance cancelled + new insurance + loss of no claims, etc)

I have a Gilera Stalker 50cc at the moment. I'm going to upgrade to a 125cc when i'm 17 (april). Havn't crashed, havn't clamied, but i figured a motorbike is much more likely to get stolen than a moped....

I havn't got the bike yet no, but the NSR125 seems to be the best option.

Actually, so i don't clog up the forum, i may as well ask in here.

People say that motorbikes need a lot of attention, and i know slinm to nothing about bikes, i can change the oil and the sparky but thats about it really. Advice anyone?

Cheers guy!

Most of the basics are easy to learn.

There's not that much to do on the NSR.

Keep the 2 stroke oil topped up and change the gear oil. It will need the rings doing every 10k or so, but it should be pretty cheap to get a garage to do it if you don't want to try yourself.

Incidentally, I would just go for a cheaper NSR and go for TPO. Ie there's no point going for TPFT at £800 on a £1000 NSR when the excess is £350 say, as even if it did get stolen you wouldn't get much back and you would lose NCB etc.

Invest the money you save on insurance in a big lock etc Thumbs Up.

I've got plenty of locks.

Oxford Magnum 2000 (Thatcham Approved) If anyone wants these dirt cheap (£25 RRP: around £70) just ask and i'll send you a link to a fantastic dealer.

Oxford Hardcore Lock and chain

Oxford Boss Alarm

I suppose you're right. I've been looking around and can get a 2002 NSR for £1250.

Also....what does it matter if its imported of not.

Thanks again for all your help guys!

Avoid imports if it all possible.

They are much, much harder to derestrict and many it seems can't be fully derestricted.

So import bike's are definitely worth a fair bit less, though owners may not realise this.

They were far and away the cheapest for me on my ZXR, and were brilliant when I got knocked off in July.
