got my bike test on friday

has any 1 got any tips they can give me?

i heard that ou dont use your indicators on your U turn is this right?



and what is the instructor looking for anything i should concentrate on more than anything else?

Have you done any training?

You should not use you indicator on a u turn, no. There should be no traffic around for you to indicate too.

Dont put you feet down on u turn either, only use rear brake to slow you down during it. Also make sure you do plenty of observations when doing the u turn and walk it round.

theirs a trick to u-turns, I was doing it fine without learning this but once I did it became so much easier, you have to keep your throttle open on a decent amount of revs (more revs better than too little and you can't fail on revving the nuts off it) then use your clutch to move off and perform the maneuver whilst keeping that throttle at the same revs throughout easing the clutch in and out. The only time you indicate on a u turn is if a car is coming down the road which you hadn't spotted before you started the maneuver (best to wait till theirs no chance of a car coming either side so you dont get flustered with indicating as its difficult.

Never focus on the kerb while doing a U turn. Focus on the end of the road. If you look at the kerb, you will hit it.

Good observation and control is the key, TO ALL MANOUEVRES!.

You have to look up the road whilst doing it, so get comfy, get the control and the looking comes easy.
The emergency stop, or ‘controlled stop’ is just that, it’s not a case of slamming on the brakes.
Pulling away from the rear of a park car is easy, cant do that, you shouldn’t be riding.
Everything else is simple enough, what I did was imagine what the examiner can see behind you, you might think you look ok but he/she might not think you’re looking.

As far as general riding goes, the instructor is looking to see if you are a competent and safe rider. Provided you are confident in your own biking skills, then make sure this comes across, and you'll be fine.

Don't get too hung up on the maneuvers.

Just relax, and ride so you look comfortable on a bike.

And don't be afraid to use the throttle, the instructor knows exactly how fast bikes will go, and will prefer to see that you can handle that power, if you twindle up to 60, how's he going to know that when you get out on your own, your not going to spin the rear wheel up the first time out?

If you can safely overtake within the speed limit, then why not? You would in the real world.

Don't filter though. For 1, your test can only last 45mins so the more time your sitting still, the less time you have to mess up!

Dont filter on your test, theres too much that can go wrong.

Ride in a safe sensible manner and look like you belong on the road!

I really think you should be asking your instructor these questions, he knows your riding much more then we do

Anyway, when performing the controlled jump, make sure you clear the cones, I saw some chap break his leg.

One thing my instructor didn't really tell me beforehand was that the examiner will ask you to pull over to the left a few times. They often do this when there are places you MUST NOT stop, such as zig zag lines etc. Best check you know where you are and are not allowed to stop.

Otherwise, relax, ride assertively and show that you are making observations.

Watch out for no car lanes and bus lanes mine took me to both. I nearly avoided the no car lane and dived into it just after it started. He gave me a minor fault for it. Id have failed if I hadnt gone in it.

Watch out for the examiner saying 'Take the next available right turn'. available means exactly that, they will often say it just before a no-entry turn, so keep awake!
