 |
|
Just tighened the chain on the bandit for the first time last night. According to the service book you have to remove the cotter pin and replace, I was going to use an R pin instead. However, there is no hole in the axle for the pin to go through!
I would have thought this is pretty dangerous, especially if the rear nut decides to loosen itself.
Would somethigng like thread lock do the trick? ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

Hello mate,
I don't think I'd use thread lock on an axle bolt, you'll be undoing it too often (if you adjust your chain as often as you should ).
I would've said that if the bolt is tightened to the correct torque and the washer's in good condition, it should be fine. A lot of bikes don't have pins anyway.
BTW - You say there's no hole in the axle, but do you have a castellated nut? If not, they probably changed the design, and the handbook wasn't updated. ____________________ You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move but should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move but does, use the Duct Tape. |

You worry too much
Just do the axle bolt up nice and tight and you'll be fine. The Bandit isn't a bike I'd worry about things like that on matey ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

If it is supposed to take 100Nm, I don't really think that overtightening it is really likely to be that much of a concern for him, unless he's jumping on the wrench. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Sorry had to check and it surprised me.
Definition of a Cotter Pin
Clicky Clicky Linky
I must admit I've always called the tapered pins in the pedals of a pushbike cotter pins, and the pin for a castlated nut a split pin.
Done my chain tonight and the split pin snapped so will have to get one tomorrow, rather be safe than sorry.

There's only one person on this forum who's allowed to torque my nuts. I'm afraid it's not you. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

There is a difference.....you know when you fit a split pin and then months later need to remove it but the ends are all fucked up and knotted and you have no idea how? Takes ages of prying with screwdrivers and pulling with long nose pliers.
Well the latter is a cotter pin because its all knotty and shitty bit like when a girl has a head full of cotter's not a nice thing i must say ____________________ My eBay Items |
