staying at the back is definatly the best plan in my opinion, then thyre unlikely to take you out or think its a race, plus you can see what the idiot is doing, friend i ride with sometimes has a very annoying habit of tailgaiting directly behind in the blind spot, he gets a right telling off everytime. still does it though the twat...

I don,t think we,ve had any troble in the south-east box hill group, most riders have been pretty good theres sometimes the odd person with a lack of confidence but time normaly sorts that out.

Group ride outs are fantastic. If your with someone who thinks its some kind of a race then let them feck off into the distance and out of your way.

God damn!

you need to be able to trust who your riding with TBH, otherwise you dont want to be tailgating big style if you dont know how they ride otherwise tap of the brakes, roll of the throttle and you have hit them!

I ride with a fair few nutters and a few silly overtaking manuvers but we all have the same trust with each other!

I dont mind sitting at the back as long as the group is upto pace otherwise i get fraustrated especially seeing the front runner dissapear because i cant get past the guy infront cus of the hogging lines he does, thats when it gets a bit dangerous as you try to force your way through!

If theres a load of us riding we will basically decide who quickest slowest etc and have it in order so there wont be any trouble in overtaking etc and can all roughly stay together, or we just keep to a no overtaking rule unless person infront waves you on!

There's a tendency for groups to (sometimes) ride too close together because they "know" the other bikes aren't about to suddenly turn into a junction or whatever.
This can lead to embarrassing pileups.

It's the same thing with any activity where physical harm is likely, be it biking, battle re-enactment or martial arts, skiing or one any number of "extreme sports": you always get some twunt who thinks they're god going way beyond their abilities and, annoyingly enough, it seems to be almost a law that they hurt others and not themselves. Some advice? As with all things: If you're a beginner, behave, and take your time.

* Nobody got good over night, regardless of what they say
* It is obvious when you're out of your depth, so stop kidding yourself.
* Lots of experience means you can do wonders with little equipment. The reverse is not true.

Oh it was nothing against group rideouts, they are exactly what makes riding a bike more enjoyable, but just occasionally there is a single individual who has to ruin it for everyone else.
