My first bike!

Ok i am only 16 at the moment and will be 17 in December but i am looking for a learner legal 125 to drive when i have passed my CBT. Reason for looking so early is that i would prefer a cheap one so i can do it up (with the help of my motorbike mad uncle).

I want a sporty 2 stroke like an nsr or tzr but i would have to pass my test which would mean no riding until Jan.

My uncle says to get a 4 stroke like a honda cg (from the late 70s, not the newer one) or a suzuki gz marauder. He says insurance will be less and i will enjoy it more and be able to ride it from my birthday.

So i am now looking for a great looking cheap 125 tourer that is learner legal on a CBT , i want it to impress people aswell.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

but your making the right move.... get a 4t 125 and get some no claims.. then get a 400cc at 17.

or do wat i did
get a ped at 16
then say a zxr400//cbr 400 at 17

How about not bother with a 50/125 and get straigt on with your test. Then dont get a 400, be a man and get at least a 500

Think about cost, i would rather get something cheap i dont mind trashing up a bit and then progressing to a bigger model maybe after riding for a few months. After all its not like i would lose much money on the bike.

Theres a few tatty ish 500's around for the same price as tatty 4t 125's

You'll never pick up something good which is a supersport rep for £600. With a bit of hunting, you could pick up a tatty DT125, they're lovely bikes, nice styling (trails) and they've got a superb reputation for reliability, considering they're 2 stroke.

But me, I'd say for £600, go for a CG. SO practical, and they've got some element of grunt. And you could pick up a newish, clean example for £600.

Why does your uncle say a CG from the '70s? The new ones are better than those, they've upgraded the brakes among many other things, plus the mileage, reliability and condition will be much better.

Might be wrong but can you not buy a bigger capacity bike and get it restricted?Gives u better balance an engine that wont wimp out and a hell of a lot more street cred. Also would allow u to keep same bike once you pass test.
