I just got home from a day at my new job. My dad was stood in the kitchen waiting, not looking to happy. He started to ask me if I carry ID and his number etc where someone can see it if I have an accident. I do carry ID but at the moment I have no phone so have no contact numbers. When I asked why, have I done something (thinking maybe I'd been a bit stupid on the bike and he was worried) he just started crying.

Apparently this morning he was told about a biker being killed on my normal route to work in Manchester. All day he's been trying to ring me on my mobile with no answer. He rang the police to just make sure it wasn't me, asked for a name or bike type or anything to make sure, they just said "We can't release details.... etc etc" which is stupid. So he's been trying to work all day, with the thought that it's very likely I'm dead.

So after that vent....

What do you guys carry? Is there a recognised type of dog tag or something? Would prefer a plastic emergency card or something like that.

Can't even start to imagine what he must have felt like today.

Rick.

P.S> Anyone on here in a position to change the stupid police "don't tell anyone anything" rule? It's not like he was asking anything too personal. Thumbs Down

I have my licence on me pretty much anytime I get on my bike and my phone is always in my pocket too. I don't carry any specific "incase of emergency" ID though.

I carry my mobile phone with an ICE number and a wallet with my driving license, cards, etc in my top pocket of my textiles.

I'd be up for there being a standard designated place on a bike/biker you look for details in an accident (For example, details will nearly always be found in the top right pocket).

Also considered setting up an ebay shop selling stickers to run along the top of your visor with removal instructions / location of details.

I suppose a wallet would have credit/debit cards etc in?

As long as you are riding your own bike, the numberplate would let the emergency services know who you are Wink

Put an emergency contact number in your mobile phone and label it ICE. (In Case of Emergency). The police etc know to look for one under this label.

I might be reading this wrong but I don't think any of that would help. The police refused to give out details, they didn't say that they didn't know who it was.

If the police so much have the numberplate of the bike, they should know who it is, before they check phone, wallet etc.

Or tatoo your name onto everypart of your body, and your name in your pants (thats British pants not American, although either will do)

i think the point rick was trying to get across was as he had no ID the police could not of contacted his dad if it was him. so was asking what people carry.
i can understand why the police refuse to answer as think it is best to let the info out in a controlled manner rather than a bit here and a bit there, so when they do tell relatives there is a support office there too

Funnily Enough I was thinking about this the other day.

I never carry my wallet on me unless I've got to go to the bank to get money for petrol. I always have my phone in the pocket of my jacket but apart from that I carry no ID at all.

I was thinking about getting some Dog Tags or having certain personal details Tattooed on my chest or wrist,Name-Blood Group-what ever else may be of use.

But now it's been mentioned, I'll sort it out sooner rather than later.

Yea, thinking about it I guess in a way it does make sense. If it was me that had been killed, it might not be best for him to find out just like that over the phone. There must be a better method than "Sorry no, we're not giving out details".

I will have a phone soon, I keep breaking them. But even then, what if they can't use my phone, or it's damaged in the crash. I just want something very simple with his number on it that wont be destroyed and is pretty clear.

Really has made me think properly about it today. Just imagine not knowing if your son is dead or alive, having to carry on working and the police not telling you anything at all. Maybe even "yes the bike was red, you'd better come down to the station just in case", I dunno.

Thanks for the advice.

Meditags are normally one of the first things that ambulance people look for on a casualty, something like that will be good to store contact details on. Thumbs Up

I carry my photo ID part of my driving licence in my wallet and also have the ICE number in my mobile phone although not sure if most people would think to look this up in the contacts, its got some publicising several months ago trying to encourage people to put this in their phones, I personally would look up "mum" or "dad" first.

Hi,

https://www.hoopers.org/Mediset.htm so medi tags as watches, bracelets and necklaces for they keep all your information regards drugs a contact info. The police etc know to look for the symbol and will call them for the info.

They will also go to the address that the bike is registered to but this might not help to get some quickly.

In most cases no-news is good news.
I think the police are right not to give information out until they know whats happening. Not everyone would want there parents notifying first.

Regards
C

My only means of ID are my licence which I carry with me all the time, and my phone which has loads of contact numbers.

Hi

While it seems a bit heartless for the police to refuse to give out info I think they are in a bit of a no win situation. The alternative is that they do give out the info which is inevitably occasionally going to be "yes, it was them" (or suddenly refuse to comment which would mean much the same).

All the best

Keith

I've often thought of putting my blood type on my lid in case of a big off, would it help at all? Maybe they use all for one plasma (or whatever it's called) stuff now at the scene or can check very quickly.

Downside is that if I skid down the road it's likely the sticker or writing would come off the lid. Where would be best to put it?

No one would take any notice of it, what if one of your mates borrowed your lid and had an off, pumping your blood group into him could kill him. Very Happy

Same here, HAve an incase of emergency (ICE) number in my mobile, a lil slip of paper in my wallet with my contact details on ( no address incase someone nicked my wallet.

If I'm going on a solo ride I always tell someone and what time I'm expected to be where or home. I even post it on a forum if no one is around at home at the time.

Hi,

In A&E they use Plasma or O RH neg blood that can be given to anyone. Only about 7% of people are this blood group so it is in great demand for donation.

I am O RH neg but I cant give blood now as I received some after an accident. They assume you might have mad cow disease Shocked
