I just got home from a day at my new job. My dad was stood in the kitchen waiting, not looking to happy. He started to ask me if I carry ID and his number etc where someone can see it if I have an accident. I do carry ID but at the moment I have no phone so have no contact numbers. When I asked why, have I done something (thinking maybe I'd been a bit stupid on the bike and he was worried) he just started crying.
Apparently this morning he was told about a biker being killed on my normal route to work in Manchester. All day he's been trying to ring me on my mobile with no answer. He rang the police to just make sure it wasn't me, asked for a name or bike type or anything to make sure, they just said "We can't release details.... etc etc" which is stupid. So he's been trying to work all day, with the thought that it's very likely I'm dead.
So after that vent....
What do you guys carry? Is there a recognised type of dog tag or something? Would prefer a plastic emergency card or something like that.
Can't even start to imagine what he must have felt like today.
Rick.
P.S> Anyone on here in a position to change the stupid police "don't tell anyone anything" rule? It's not like he was asking anything too personal. |

I have my licence on me pretty much anytime I get on my bike and my phone is always in my pocket too. I don't carry any specific "incase of emergency" ID though. ____________________ Now: '00 Kawasaki ZRX1100R - Past: '84 Yamaha DT125, '89 Kawasaki KLR600, '97 Yamaha XJ600N

I suppose a wallet would have credit/debit cards etc in?
As long as you are riding your own bike, the numberplate would let the emergency services know who you are |

i can understand why the police refuse to answer as think it is best to let the info out in a controlled manner rather than a bit here and a bit there, so when they do tell relatives there is a support office there too

Yea, thinking about it I guess in a way it does make sense. If it was me that had been killed, it might not be best for him to find out just like that over the phone. There must be a better method than "Sorry no, we're not giving out details".
I will have a phone soon, I keep breaking them. But even then, what if they can't use my phone, or it's damaged in the crash. I just want something very simple with his number on it that wont be destroyed and is pretty clear.
Really has made me think properly about it today. Just imagine not knowing if your son is dead or alive, having to carry on working and the police not telling you anything at all. Maybe even "yes the bike was red, you'd better come down to the station just in case", I dunno.
Thanks for the advice. |

Meditags are normally one of the first things that ambulance people look for on a casualty, something like that will be good to store contact details on. ____________________ boo! |

Hi,
https://www.hoopers.org/Mediset.htm so medi tags as watches, bracelets and necklaces for they keep all your information regards drugs a contact info. The police etc know to look for the symbol and will call them for the info.
They will also go to the address that the bike is registered to but this might not help to get some quickly.
In most cases no-news is good news.
I think the police are right not to give information out until they know whats happening. Not everyone would want there parents notifying first.
Regards

Hi,
In A&E they use Plasma or O RH neg blood that can be given to anyone. Only about 7% of people are this blood group so it is in great demand for donation.
I am O RH neg but I cant give blood now as I received some after an accident. They assume you might have mad cow disease
