What do people use/ recommend to keep the cold from freezing your necks in this weather?

I have a storm flap on my jacket but there's still a little chink that lets a cold blast of air in underneath the helmet. Do those bandana things work? They look a bit thin to me. Going to Ally Pally tomorrow and will look to get something then. Any recommendations?

Cheers

Get a balaclava. Keeping your head warm is quite important in winter conditions.

Get a neck warmer. They are the best thing ever. I have 2 a thin freebie summer one from a bike mag. And a thick fleece type one for the colder days.

Just wish I had been told about them sooner.

ive got a Buff Polor one

i used to have a balaclava but worked fine but due to ear piecings was causing discomfort

i brought a polor buff next warmer and is great, was £15 but so much better, esp on ridouts dont have to take it off and on, just pull it down slight and just as warm (much more comfortable i think)

i love it so much i wear it in cold when im not on the bike!

i got one thats kind of the bottom half of a hockey mask, made of spongey stuff, that straps round the back of the head. quite good. i still prefer a normal neck warmer thing though.

Use a scarf, bound to be one lying around the somewhere, or if not I brought a neck warmer thing for £1.50, came with a set or ear plugs and a cargo net.

Also (it may sound stupid) but a page from a newspaper under your clothes on your chest works great.

Can't do without a neckwarmer whatever the weather. Heavy one for winter light one just to keep the wind off your neck in summer.

I've got a Buff for the summer and a shorter winter one that came free with bike mag.

The winter one is no good on its own, but I wear it under the buff tucked into my jacket collar, with the buff pulled up over my nose.

This keeps me very warm in the winter! Smile

Ok, thanks for the tips peeps; have a recce each Smile

I'll see what I can find at the show tomorrow. Haven't really noticed the cold until this week - got a sore throat as well, which might be something to do with it.

I got one like Yoko's, a bright orange Motrax one... £5. Really feel the benefit when you go out without it, does the job perfectly!

I'm wearing a fleece balaclava, it also covers my neck very well in the current cold weather.

Oh BTW I wear balaclava's all year around, hence my nickname "DANGEROUS" (just mention the name at Smithfield meatmarket)

I've still got the Bike freebie neck tube which keeps the windblast off pretty well, but I have since got an army surplus one which is thicker, longer and warmer in this sort of weather. My neck and chin aren't top of the list when it comes to keeping warm, I mostly just endeavour to reduce the warmth escaping from the top of my jacket with them.

Rab Active Down Vest

The Active vest returns! This latest version of this perennial favourite is made from the same materials as the Serac and Nevé jackets, namely a Pertex Triplerip outer shell and soft inner fabric with 85% European duck down. The down filled vest provides all the advantages of superb warmth to the core body area without restriction to arm movement, making it ideal for people who are backpacking or travelling or for use following vigorous activity to prevent rapid heat loss (ideal for doggers).
