nsr125 exhaust de-coke

whats the best way to de-coke or whatever clean out the exhaust ? i heard that u would use caustic soda solution but cant find this to buy? are there any other ways to do it or anywhere u can get the sodium hydroxide from?

I used white spirit to clean my exhaust out and it did the trick fine.

Caustic soda will dissolve all of the carbon build up that's sapping power. I need to do this on my NSR, but as I don't use it, I keep putting it off. I don't understand how white spirits will remove 10k miles worth of burnt oil

Well, i don't know if it got rid of all of it. But if you get chain lube on your wheels etc, try using white spirits to clean it off it works a treat. So i thought it would work in the exhaust, poured some down, left it for a while, tipped it out and it was black not clear so it must have got some out.

That was just a bit of oil it washed out, you need the caustic soda to break down the hardened carboned deposits, if it was a shitty exhaust burning it out with a gas torch is another good method.

I dont use white spirit on my chain I use parrafin which doesnt ruin the rubber seals on the chain

use diesel or the fuel you use in heaters . pass onto with a brush several time , let it a couple hours then clean with high pressure water gun . i use this since i begin mechanics in 1962 and it works all the way without destroying rubbers
