They are soooo fucking annoying me so much atm. Pissing me off big time.

My mum always gets in a stress over fuck all, comes in from work adn the house has to be absolutely fucking spotless otherwise she screams the house down, whatever i do they always have a go at me for, never my sister as shes the baby and perfect (even though she always got in shit at school, but it was never serious.... what bollock)

I have been downstairs for a bit and they sound like such stuck up plebs, laughing about people on the tv.

Another thing they are doin, i want to get a new phone contract but they wont get me one because they don't want the money to come out of their account, as i cant get a credit card i cant get a new phone. Yesterday they said i could get one now they changed their mind, im 18 and still not allowed to make decisions for myself. Evil or Very Mad

i know really they are not bad people just they are annoying me at the moment and i still feel like crap and need to let this out. Middle Finger

So in summary,

Your mum wants the house kept clean.
Your parents don't want your mobile phone money coming out of their account.

If these are your only problems can I have your life please?

Basically they both work too much and have too stressful jobs, one night last week my dad went to work at 6 and got back at 11.

This means that they are always on the edge and always seem to take it out on me. Sad

You dont need a credit card for a new contract.

Direct debit out of a normal account.

They keep making this huge fuss that if i get one they will kick me out of the house, what a joke. They think i have no control will max it out and get them to bail me out.

I'm pretty good with money, only spend what i've got. I have 2 savings accounts i have access to but haven't touched, surely they should give me credit for that. Confused

Get a job, try and move out. If you don't like the way your parents treat you, the answer is to break free and support yourself.

Moving out will also improve your relationship with your sister. It may not seem important to you now, but having a family member aproximately the same age as you to talk to is a massive asset.

You wont, trust me.

Considering I maxed mine, got a loan to pay it off and then maxed it again, I can vouch for the fact that they are a true nightmare.

I'm now £3500 in debt to Barclaycard yet again, and with fuck all but my PC and my bike insurance to show for it.

Seriously mate, dont even contemplate getting one, I wish I'd listened to all the people who advised against me having one.

I am working now nath, taking a gap year and got a decent job. They kept saying that if i take a gap year i will become a drop out and just stay in that job for the rest of my life. Thanks Mad

They thought that after getting quite a lot of money with no expense that i would prefer that than uni, i cant wait to go, 600 miles away and i can do what i want.

All of my friends are at uni now and i don't really get to do much, go into town a few times a week but apart from that it sucks.

I have kind of worked out that me and my sister have been smothered too much and rely on people too much.

This is sad...

Your parents work stressful jobs..maybe not through their own choice
Parents get trapped, and they are probably doing it, at the end of the day, for YOU and the family

I am old I guess, older than a lot on here, and am slowly falling into the 'slaving your life away for family' thing

I get home at the end of the day, the house is a mess, I clean up, washing, dinner, sort pets out, blah..blah..on and on
I get a bit fractious. Yes I do
But I work and my other half works to save and provide a stable life for our child

In the end, we know why we do what we do...
and when you get older, you may see your parents' lives from a different angle

They are concerned for your future, and they maybe going the wrong way about it saying you will become a drop-out, but they want you to do well.
They have raised you this far...

The thing is though they make it so hard for young people to do anything without having one. I don't need one but all i have is 3 accounts with 3 visa electron cards. I can't use them anywhere and i have failed 2 credit checks to get debit cards (need checks apparently because they are cheque guarentee cards) the only way barclays will give me debit cards is to get a credit card and a rating.

Even though my mum works for them they won't do it, surely thats some kind of security. Confused

Probably because Mark, they see your mum and dad earning a fair whack, so they could bail you out and/or pay the lot off, which in turn means they make no money from you.

Banks are a business after all. When I got mine, I was 21, been working as a trainee plumber for 6 months and earning about £15000pa, a perfect candidate for making them money. Relatively low income, and yet young enough to still go and spunk loads of money on shit, and of course get myself in debt which makes them money. I mean I applied as a joke really and lo and behold 2 weeks later a card turns up with a £3500 limit.

My mum used to have a business with a friend making wedding dresses and childrens clothes which sold in shops in windsor which was doing well, she also worked in a library with a few of her friends a few hours a week. She gave up both to do something a bit more interesting with barclays. She knew what it would be like and chose it, also gave up smoking at christmas so don't know if that has anything to do with it.

My dad also chose his current job, currently accounts for 44,000 soldiers in the uk. Had to go into work the other day at some stupid hour because a soldier shot himself in the head. He is doing these silly jobs so that he can be kind of fast tracked to get promoted again. Is staying on until hes 55 now (currently 42) and wants to stay longer.

Move to Natwest, I've had a cheque guarentee card since I was 16 without any problems from them.

Just get yourself a credit card, I thought you were talking about starting your own accountancy business after university?

Tell me about it.

A few years ago I was on well below 12k (Until last year)

Knew I couldn't afford a bike.

In the end said 'fuck it' and got a £3000 loan to get all of my stuff.

Now that money is spent, I don't regret it and am proud of my investment.

But trying to get money for DAS is very very hard.

It's very hard to keep up with trends (Not that I do, would probably explain why I was debt free for 20 years) without resorting to some form of credit.

Would I of been happier if I had splash out loads on credit cards? I would have a lot more to show for my life so far, which counts for a lot, but I would have been unhappy with debt.

One of my life goals is to NEVER own a credit card, they scare me so much as you spend money you dont have, what if you plan to pay something back and you lose you job (and i know how this feels! Evil or Very Mad )

I think a reason that its happening is because you are spending too much time at home, when i spend lots of time in my house it all gets too much and makes me feel how your feeling now.

I try to spend a fair but of time out of my house, so much less stress that way Thumbs Up

Try and save up some money from your job. When you have a large sum of cash sitting in your current account the bank will go out of their way to try and sell you things such as debit and credit cards. Also, it's best to apply for things like debit cards in person at your bank rather than over the phone.

As for everything else... Just wait till you get to University. Once there you will have the freedom to get a credit card and do anything else you might want to. Your parents won't know about it, so they won't be able to stop you.

When I got my student bank account first thing the bank asked me was if I wanted a credit card. I couldn't believe it, thought they were joking. I didn't get one though. £1200 overdrawn is enough debt for me.

sack Uni all together I'd say,

You'll only end up with minimum of £15k debt & still have to fight to get a job at the end of it like every other jock.
Or, if like I did, found that after 2 years you think that uni is not for you, or, you fail ur exams, you exit with massive debt & no qualifiction, and 2 years of lost oppertunity.

Or alternativly you could do something like a plumbing apprentiship, earn £10k/year, then after 3 years have companys screaming after you paying you a fortune, or go self employed & charge £100/hour labour.

I plan to start my own company when i come out, student debts are only like £30 a week to pay off as well. I will only have to pay off my drinking money. Laughing I am getting my fees and accomodation paid for.

I think its a joke how banks are basically tricking people into spending money which isn't theirs and cashing in on it. Thumbs Down

Also i think that because i have failed 2 credit checks i have to declare that for when i get loans and stuff. Wtf is all that about, i've never had credit before and would be able to pay it off.

Personally I think Uni lost its elitism the last few years as every tom, dick and harry seemed to have a degree. But with the introduction of the new tuition fees going to cost £9000 for 3 years its already cut applications for Uni by 18%.

I think the degree could be the awsome thing it used to be. Depends what you get a degree in though.

The debt doenst bother me too much. Only the price of an average car really.

Why wait 3 years? do it now, If you haven't got the qualifications, then get a DTI grant, set up ur business & employ someone who does.

But what about the student over drafts, credit cards etc?

Yup

Oh, if you try and get credit several times & get refused within a short period, it lowers your credit score!

i agree, i was talking to a friend of mine and she was planning to do "media studies" at uni and when i pointed out there is no jobs in that and really pointless to take a degree in that (i said it a bit nicer than that) and she said "no, there loads il be earning so much more that you!"

i was quite shocked, maybe a lot of peopel going to uni doing "nancy" degrees think there are job in it?

i going to uni as i want to go into Chemical Engineering, i will be a degree in this and there are lots of job in it as not everyone takes it and also can fall back on teaching as is a good degree for a science teacher to hold, so i think i will gain for uni
