 |
|
Hi all, i want a bit fatter profile on my rear and front tyres, and they offer very little grip in the corners.
What do the numbers mean??
100/80 -17 is my rear tyre size ( i know the 17 is rim size)
does 100 mean the width of the rim and 80 mean the rpofile of the tyre? i.e how curved it is? If it does what profile will be rounder (more rubber at egdes for cornering). Thanks all ____________________ My eBay Items |

i thought wider tyres, but ones were the wall of the tyre is only small maing a lot more of a radiused corner than a cliff edge. Mine have a nice blend between tyre wall and the actual its just the part of the tyre your are riding on is actually about a cm wide when you lean over ____________________ My eBay Items |

CBR125 is a nice handling little bike, I rode my GFs one when it was new and it went round corners like it was on rails. I can't see why you should be having any problems on the standard tyre sizes. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. My NSR handles a lot better on my new Bridgestone Battlax's, in comparison to the old Pirellli MT75's. If its a CBR125 (think i read that somewhere) then i don't know, the tyres on that really are small. Apparently the CBR125 was a bike designed as a commuter bike for the Asian (Thailand? etc) market. Honda sleeved down the engine to 125 (from 150) and put some fairings on it. So it was never designed for handling or speed, but i don't know about different wheels etc. Definetly recommend Bridgestones though. |

It does go round most corner like its on rails, but say you want to go 3/4 way round a round about then it starts to slip out..........same for a long corner once you getting past 1/2 - 3/4 of way round they start to slip out.......I havnt put one scratch on my sliders because of this........it always mean gently coming off the throttle and trying to press as much weight onto the rear as possible to make it "dig in" ( other alternative is to chuck it up straight again but i cant always do that (cars on other side of road etc ect))
They are shite tyres though, if i lean over handle bars to stop it doing a wheelie and just dump the clutch it spins......on warm dry tarmac! Not by any means am i saying my bike is immensly powerful but the fact it will do this is not much reassurance for trying to learn how to corner properly. Oh yea will stiffer rear suspension help me corner better or will it be more likely to "jitter" on the country roads? ____________________ My eBay Items |

Yep im serious........8-9000rpm and dump clutch from standing start........might only be 14BHP but im only 8-stone....
Nope not in freezing temps wait till its warmed up mid-day (on soem lucky days we getting a bit of heat and sun) go do an hours ride to warm tires up, get to my "practice road" go up it with front brakes trailing (helps warm front tyre up) do a burnout at the top if its really cold and fly back down and see what happen's. At present it is doing no better or worse than it did last summer....... ____________________ My eBay Items |

What do they have on now? Maybe your bike has the wrong tyres on, did you buy it from new?
I could have sworn they were pirelli MT75 as standard.
If not, they are something similar, can't find what the original fitment tyre is supposed to be, but here is a picture of the rear tyre on a brand new CBR125R. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. i can pull away perfectly fine ......just when i tried to race my mate i noticed that if i pull off as said above the bike doesnt have much of a tendacy to acclerate just to shred the rear wheel instead
Getting my knee down is what i want to learn while i still have a light skinny bike.......so i dont kill myself on my RVF wich i have set my heart on but i need to pull a few grand out my arse before i get it ____________________ My eBay Items |

I bought it brand new its done 3000miles and no more than 5 burnouts (all of wich where upright so ive only damaged the middle part of the tyre)
original fitment is 100/80 rear but no idea on make will check tommorow and get back to you
And idea if them pirelli's i showed you about 9 post up will help my grip better? ____________________ My eBay Items |

I always used to use pirelli MT65 on my smaller bikes and they were great, the MT75 is the new version so I reckon they should be perfectly adequate, but I would get them in the original size.
Beware of trying to run before you can walk. I bet there are very few people on this forum, even experienced riders on the latest sports bikes who would be even thinking about knee-down cornering at this time of year. Even when the road looks dry, it is still covered in salt. The salt acts like a fine grinding compound and 'polishes' the surface of the road as tyres run over it. Very slippery.
As a general rule, if you are outriding the grip on a tyre like that at this time of year, it isn't a problem with the tyre, it is just you are going at it too hard. Back off.
And since this is the internet and I can say what I want. I reckon with all this talk of popping wheelies, knee down and burnouts, you are going to knacker a perfectly good wee bike in short order, if you don't come off it first. Sounds to me like you are flogging the proverbial tits off it and while it is a robust wee motor, it won't take that sort of abuse forever.
