I'd say yes, for the most part.

I guess for most of us, the 'net provides us with more of a chance to think about what we say. Whether we use that chance or not is a different matter all together!

I tend to find that I speak to (or argue with) people on the 'net that I might not bother to in real life - I guess that's the only real difference.

I'm much more shy in real life which is why I have found it much easier to "socialise" on the internet.

I may not say exactly the same things offline, but my principles are still the same.

Definately the same offline than i am online, very open and extrovert. I don't really have or hide any shame and can get "in your face" at times. I'm giddier and hyper in real life. All in all i'm a pleasant guy to be with if you can cope with my very childish, goofy and spontaneous (read abrasive) humour.

Pretty much the same, yes

If anything, maybe a bit more "talkative" online, but that's mainly because we have more time to think of replies etc but my views and opinions are exactly the same

Some doubt me but when you know me in real life you kind of understand that 90% of everythign I say is in jest, I know Jon (Suzuki) used to think I was a bit of a cunt until he'd met me.

Online persona, my arse.

I'd say you are too. I'd also say that I'm also the same online as I am in real life.

Going back to Shaun's comment... before I met him in person, I thought he was a right twat, and just unnecessarily rude to everybody. Having then met him and found out what his personality is like, reading back through his posts I could see that they weren't nasty, just his type of humour.

Now whenever I read Shaun's posts I have an image of him in my head saying them, and I can see that they're just jokes.

Pretty much, yes. I'd agree with Shaun, in that probably 90% of my life is not really taken seriously, so flippant remarks are always at the ready. I'm not usually as delightfully harsh as him though Laughing

With friends, I'd say I was more or less exactly the same as on here. The difference is probably with strangers. As G pointed out, the internet is a great leveller. When I get into "racist" or similar conversations in real life, I'm always worried that the person I'm arguing with is eventually going to lose his temper and thump me. On here, or via email or wherever, I'll happily say what I think safe in the knowledge that only words can come back. If anything, that possibly makes me more honest online, if also slightly more provocative.

On further consideration, contadictory to what I said earlier, it does also provide some problems.
In considering 'general' comments rather than arguments with specific people:
A lot of people seem to say generally offencive things that they would not dare do if they were talking to a random group of people they didn't very well.
Often these very people seem to be the ones that can be heard saying 'say that to my face'; who I bet would have used more tact in real life in the first place Rolling Eyes.

The 'equaliser' would be the internet.

I was no where as near as violent as I could or should have been. But, would I have tried to act the same on the internet, as such, is the question? Smile

In real life I would rarely give my opinions on anything to people who I dont know.

I might even pretend to agree with someone just to be pleasant in real life.

i think i am, i hope people that have met me off here thought i was the same as i am on here, maybe a bit slower though in real life Rolling Eyes

*PLEASE READ BEFORE FLAMING ME*

Personally before i joined BCF i though Forums were for people that didnt have much of a social life.

I came on to ask a question about a RS125 i was going to buy and well got to talk so some really cool poeple Thumbs Up when i brought a RS i asked a few questions and then eventully went on a rideout with White Noise and Davo and both were really decent blokes and showed me that poeple on here are just cool poeple into bikes and use the forums to talk about them for one reason or another

I come on here as none of my friends are into bikes at all so i dont really talk about bike unless its a rideout Crying or Very sad

-- So therefore i try to be the same as i am in real life!
