Why are the holes on my disc in such a stupid position. I would have thought they would have put them equally spaced to balanced it but this seems random.
Any ideas why they do this?

No idea, but there is a pattern to it. The gap between the pair gets increasingly bigger, the next pair in the sequence being just less than halfway around the disc (144 degrees to be exact) from the last. ____________________ Current bike: Kawasaki Z750S |

Doesnt look very good, and possibly not naturally balanced either.
Silly design. ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |

they look to be like a hand made job with a drill, obviously they got lazy and couldn't be arsed to create a perfect job.
correct me if i'm wrong but won't certain parts of the disc get cooler than the rest of the disc possibly causing warping? ____________________ Turbo R1

Might be to do with drying the brakes more efficiently. The irregular holes might allow the water to be disposed of easier in some parts of the disc, giving better wet braking there, while on the parts of the disc with fewer holes, dry braking is improved.
Also, they are arranged so that 720 degreees of turning gives a full sequence of the holes. So this means while one sequence is at 360 degrees, one has just finished and one is just beginning (if that makes sense). dmahon's post should simplify it for you.

They must have been passing the bong round the workshop when they got round to designing the discs ____________________ Turbo R1
