help needed for yamaha TZR 125

hello all new to this, i have just bought a Yamaha TZR 125 the bike has not been running for a year or so and when i drove it home and stopped i noticed a puddle of petrol underneath the bike

is this something to do with the Carburettor becos it has been sat for a while? if so whats best to do

Ie can a complete novice have a go at cleaning it or does it require an expert

Sounds like it may be be a perished / split petrol pipe to me.

If its not , get a haynes manual and dive in there !!

just had a look and it was coming from a black tube from the carb

is that an overflow pipe or summot

looked on internet and says it could be the floats are stuck in carb

that sound right to anyone

Yeah sounds about right. Get a can of carbrettour cleaner , and then take off the float chamber (bowl at bottom of carb , usually held on by a few screws at the bottom) and liberally spray with carb cleaner.

If that doesnt work , You may need to strip the carb down.

Sometimes tapping the float bowl from the outside with the handle of a screw driver can free the float......but gently does it, don't go mad!

apply a few sharp taps to the side of the carb, mine did this, so i decided to see what happened if i wack it , and guess what... Thumbs Up

even though the day i wantto try and fix it it starts raining Sad

did get it going once though but kep on spluttering and wouldnt go over 3k revs

is that cos of the carb, therfore not letting any fuel to into it
i tried hitting it a few times with a spanner?

as i am pants on bikes(first bike and all that but i am wiling to learn any advice anyone

i remember my petrol tank leaking on my AR125, i didnt notice until i'd just been for a long ride, stopped at traffic light and i could hear a hissing noise.

looked down and my tank was leaking petrol directly onto my expansion chamber.

my god it was a brown pants moment Embarassed

I think you'll find it will have been sat with very little or no petrol in it. So the floats will sit at the bottom of the float bowl, and get stuck there. Therefore when it fills with petrol, the floats won't raise, and won't restrict the flow of petrol.

Therefore it'll piss petrol.

Clean your carbs, although giving the float bowls a tap might do the trick in the short term.
