well, all, i had a well earned day off on friday.i knew it would be dry,so i had planned on taking my bike out for a good long run..saddle bags fitted..another bag over my shoulder and off i went.

a bit of retail therapy coupled with a long run on my honda cbf 600 was really appealing.

on the morning it was about 3 degrees (when will i see you again!)when i left....40 miles to my first stop,i was well wrapped up but about 7 miles from Ballymena (my first destination) i was nearly it tears....my fingers were in agony...everywere else was like toast but my fingers.....man,i never felt anything like that before.....i was wearing Buffalo winter gloves and was moving my fingers constantly but to no avail.

anyway,i dont want this to happen again so i bought a new pair of gloves from procella.co.uk(a wet suit site) ...they are a 5mm neoprene glove so i am going to try them out when i receive them and report back to you all with the results......

hope they work.....with a summer glove over the top of them...

Know the feeling well, where you're nearly in tears from the discomfort!! Laughing God forbid someone emergency braked infront of me when I'm like that, I wouldn't stand a chance.

Funnily enough, my £40 gloves were crap taking me from hull - glasgow in december, stopping all the time. The 360 miles from wolverhampton to Glasgow the other week was fine despite it being baltic cold. And that was using £20 gloves. Go figure. Confused

I just did 80 miles in the rain and i can safely say that i've NEVER been so cold in all my life.

I only had my summer gloves on and they are definatly not waterproof! Crying or Very sad

Then to make matters worse, i got home to find i was locked out and had to get a ladder and climb in through the window Sick

I make a 60 mile round trip on my bike everyday. After putting up with the agony for 3 months, I finally got a set of heated grips. I now wear summer gloves only. My finger tips and thumb tips do still get a bit cold, but it isn't agonisingly painful. When wiring in the grips, make sure you get the polarity right. If you connect them the wrong way round, they still heat up, but the thermostat and on/off switch become nonfunctional. At £29.99, they are well worth the cost. Cheaper than a set of gloves.

a couple of questions - do the heated grips increase the diameter by much? and tip of thumb being the coldest part of the hand, does it help with that?

I use Peter Storm base layer gloves under my summer gloves, keeps most of the chill out but still a bit numbing on the thumb tips.

thanks

Lee

Hi,

Another vote for the oxfrod hot grips. They even work in the snow, but eveything else was cold.

I also use the 2 fingered gloves which seam warmer.

Regards
C

The tips of my fingers, my thumb the worst still gets very cold with the heated grips.

When I was training for my bike test last february, I had some thin sports gloves under some very thick winter gloves, I could have cried from the pain, it was immense.

I don't think there's any substitue for decent gloves. Heated gloves might be a nice avenue to try.

I WILL have a pair of heated gloves for next winter. Around ~£90 but I bet they are worth it.

Coupled with a heated jacket and well toastie Thumbs Up Smile

I've just been using £25 gloves off ebay. Not the best at keeping your hands warm but if it's really bad stopping to heat them on the exhaust for a few minutes helps a good bit.

Lucky I've only got a 12 mile commute. Couldn't imagine doing much more without better gloves.

The Heine-Gericke 3 finger gloves are pretty good, but still don't solve the problem. Heated grips and bar muffs together are the way to go, just I don't feel like forking out £50+ for the lot. Confused
