Not tarnishing all of them, but the amount of cyclists I see riding on the roads and ignoring red lights and stop signs, is really starting to wind me up! Middle Finger

They carry on as if the rules of the road don't apply to them, but sooner or later they will cause and accident, and sods law the other party involved will be the loser, cos the cyclist will claim damages and prolly win the case.

Starting to think now that the next cyclist I see jump lights etc, I'm gonna catch up (once lights change) and kick em off their bicycle! Evil or Very Mad

Sorry, rant over. I'm normally a peaceful guy but everyone has their limit. Embarassed

So what you are saying is that you don't like people who ignore the rules of the roads. Good for you. Does that include speeding?
You didn't really need to single out cyclists because plenty of other road users ignore reds lights etc etc.
Seems like you have yourself a prejudice there.

I keen considering if I should stick my elbow out into thier faces and let the mride into it. Then when they get up ager wiping the blood off their face simply say "Sorry, was trying to hail a taxi!"

If they kick up a stink, feel free to recommend the request police assistance, then explain that they ran a red light anyway.

Why? It's up to them what they do, they're the one taking the risk and it's nothing to do with you.

Seems a bit like the way car drivers get pissed off at bikers for being able to filter the way that some bikers get really up themselves about cyclists. Rolling Eyes

By all means kick them off and show the world how much of a cunt you really are but don't be too suprised if they get up and kick your bike.

I cycle quite a lot and to be fair the same gripes that appear on this forum regarding cars, lorries, buses, etc are similar to those that appear on bicycle forums.

On a bike most of us get away with what you can whether it means breaking the law or not (I'm thinking speeding, undertaking/filtering in some instances and maybe the odd parking offense). If you're on a bicycle it's no different.

All Minority road users get short shrift from the mainstream - there are plenty of car drivers who dislike both bikers and cyclists, have a moan about them instead Thumbs Up

They wind me up sometimes, there are quite a few people who do it properly but you get some that piss around just like anything really.

Only reason i don't really like cyclists is becasue they always seem to be in the worst place possible when i go past, at a junction round a corner etc and i want to be able to go round it instead of slowing right down to make sure its safe to over take them. Thumbs Up

One of the main reasons bikers don't like cyclists is because they behave 'unpredictably' on the roads. When I am near them I tend to cover my brakes, slowdown, or veer slighly away from them as you just don't know what they are going to do. This will of course raise the stress/adrenalin levels, causing anxiety and therefore everytime one is near them this reaction will occur.

Their general level of stupidity does amaze me though. Riding (in London) with no protective gear or helmet with an MP3 player and jumping red lights - one day I am going to see one flattened by a lorry or van and it won't be a pretty site.

When I cycle on the roads, I have no problems going through red lights if there is nothing coming. Always filter through the traffic if it is going slower than me. If there's a line of stationary traffic I will go onto the pavement to ride past it.

Bottom line is that if it's safe, and beneficial for me to break road laws, I will do. That is the advantage of being on a push bike, as you have no license to lose or registration number to be written down.

By all means kick cyclists off their bikes, however when they start kicking you off your motorcycles I think you will suffer more costly damage Karma

I think it also depends on if the cyclist know's the sequence of the light's.

For instance if the lights have all changed to red, allowing pedestrians to cross, then assuming there are no pedestrians and the lights I am at are set to change to green I will 'jump' them. Doesn't harm anyone, and if it does the only person who will get harmed is myself.

@Headlamp sometimes I make move's which may be considered erratic(sp) by other road user's but to me are vaguely calculated risk's. For instnace pulling out into the traffic flow when needing to overtake a parked vehicle. If I pulled out with lot's of time to spare as I would on my motorbike I would be holding up traffic, if I leave it until as late as possible I avoid that. I do not force any vehicles into sudden braking manouveres as this would likely be detremental to me.

This is wrong, you can be fined for jumping a red light. I beleive you can also have point's put on your licence. Road law's do still apply to cyclist's.

When i used to cycle i was naughty all the such as jumping on the bike when the road is clear, i once got pulled over by the police for doing 35mph down a hill on my bicycle he said i was speeding and i just laughed but because it was safe to do what i was doing and whats he gonna do give me points for speeding on a bicycle.

But now im on a motorbike some things really do piss me off now!

Hi

Tend to agree with the comment that if it is safe then fine, although plenty push it well beyond being safe.

Only thing that gets annoying is when a bicycle filters to the front of a queue of traffic at some lights then gets in everyones way when the lights go green, resulting in half the number of cars getting across the lights. Hardly courteous to jump a queue then stop them proceeding when they could otherwise.

Cycling furiously is a particular offence.

All the best

i ride a bicycle. I ride it as if it is both pedestrian and road user. This means if I come to a red light, I go onto the pavement to my left anc cross the sideroad as a pedestrian (but still riding), then when i have crossed the side road i go back onto the road.

Basically I am treating a red light as a give way signal. It doesnt really make sense that I go onto the pavementto do it, but it makes me feel like a pedestrian so going through a red light feels ok.

Not much different, to staying on the road and going through a red light, but I dont think I wd do it without my little ritual of converting to a pedestrian and back.

Using this technique in towns, you can be as fast A to B as a car or motorbike if there are a few traffic lights.

I work in Cambridge which seems to be the cycling capital of the UK. There are many good sensible riders out there and there are as many who are c*nts.

They seem to think that they have priority over all other traffic, several times a week I have them pull right out of a cycle route into my path causing me to brake...very often without even looking.

It's like "ohh I live in cambridge and Im very clever and I will ride out in front of this car because cars are evil, plus the driver does not look vegetarian, etc etc"

They dont pay tax
or Insurance
they dont have to participate in any kind of road safety scheme

what happens if they hit my car or bike, who is going to pay for it? I am because the c*nts dont have insurance......

PS: I do cycle but normally stay away from roads Wink

I remember coming out of a corner about twice the speed limit (60mph road) and there being a bunch of lycra clad skinny ass cyclists riding 3 abreast and a car coming the other way. There was enough room for me to get through...just.

Dont think they would have been happy with me that day.

Pavement cyclist arrest technique number 1:

As cycle approaches brace booted foot at an angle between front wheel and ground.

At the same time firmly grasp both handlebars from in front being sure to apply both brakes with your thumbs as you do so.

Ensure your head and body are off to one side so you are not struck by the cyclists head.

Ennounciate clearly "Oy, pal, I'm walking here." before walking off.
