Changed the front indicators - no problem.
As soon as I changed one of the rear indicators, the relay spazzed out and the flasher did not function properly.

Can anyone please suggest a possible reason for this as I assumed one indicator was much the same as another!

Cheers,

Stephen.

Probably lower powered bulbs in 'em, try wiring in a resistor or failing that, buy an uprated relay unit (sold for LED indicators which are way lower drain)

You will need a new flasher relay unit, thats what i had to get for my bike when i put micro indicators on the back and micro fairing ones on the front.

They cost about £7 from your local dealer.

cheers, i'll sort it out.

Seems strange that the front ones were ok to change but not the back........but I'm not even going to go into it, I'll just get the damn flasher unit!!

Later,

Stephen.

If the new ones are LEDs it will make them flash at a different speed.

i got LED ones on mine, u need either a resistor running in parallel or a slower flasher relay.

i got the neccessary resistors free with the indicators form busters accessories.

biggaz, surely if you run it in parallel the same amount of power will still flow through the indicator? run it in series, and it will regulate the amount of power running through, wont it? Not saying you're wrong, just wondered.

not too sure how it works to be honest but i had a resistor with 3 wires coming out of it 2 positives and 1 negative, i connected the indicators as normal and then put positive to each indicator and grounded the final wire. ill see if i can dig out the connection diagram tomorrow just out of interest.

The easiest way to sort out the problem is to compare the total wattages of either side - i.e. each side uses 15 watt bulbs (just an example!) so you need 30 watts a side...In my case, I got round the problem of fitting tiny indicators to the rear of the NSR by fitting oversize bulbs in the front ones.

Basically, the smaller the bulbs on the front, the bigger the ones on the back - make sure they're fairly matched up and it should just be trial and error.

Worrying about resistors is a lot of effort when you can simply just get some oversize bulbs for the indicators that you aren't replacing, unless you replace all of them in which case add up the wattage for each side of the bike and buy a relay with that capacity Smile.

mate i had the same. dont go and buy anything!!!!! you dont need too.
if you still have the original indictors, then do the following.
- attach the new rear indicators.
-and on the front indicators take the bulb out of the new pair, and put the bulb from the old indicators in it. do this for both indicators on the front. then replace the new indactor back on the bike with the bulbs from the old indicators in them.

Agreed. The NSR uses 10w bulbs, mini indicators use 21w. Either you have to change the relay to one that can handle 21w, or you need 10w bulbs. I would suggest getting 10w bulbs (OE) as a 21w relay requires more current from the battery. Works fine without headlights on or while the revving the engine, but if you're idling at the lights with your beam on, they will flash incredibly slowly or not at all. I know.

since ages i've told anybody that ! my solution is :
generally these mini indicators use ba9s bulb fittings (21 or 23w) the solution is to find 10w bulbs in ba9s fittings

Thanx all 4 your help.

The new indicators seem to be a sealed unit, ie, opening up to change a bulb is not an option.

Also I don't know where to get a relay, it is not in halfords as the one on the nsr has an L shaped plug coming from loom. Such a relay will probably only be available from a specialist.

However, I trust the guys who sided against that move!!

Looks like I'll have to leave it for a while, it's taking up too much brain power, the old ones work fine and I have better things to be getting on with!! I'm really not so bothered so as to waste so much time on it, only thought of it because the front ones were so simple to change.

cheers guys,

stephen.

Got mine from Halfords/local car spare shop. 12V 2x21W + 5W. But then you don't need it, just use 12v 10W bulbs Wink

You can open up the indicators. The amber bit should have a clip on the inside - look for a small gap you can get a flathead screwdriver into. It should pop off.

I have a similar problem...got 21watt bulbs rather than 10watt bulbs. I want to replace them with 10watt bulbs but I am a bit unsure of what type of bulbs they are.

Here is a picture of the bulb alongside a broken one of the same type but with clearer writing on it. Anyone know what type bulb it is?

Thanks!

Yep just measured it, it is 9mm in diameter. So it is a Ba9s bulb then.

Thanks!
