i was riding back from bassets pole with a mate the other day, and coming down the a road towards mile oak, just after the last hill, i was giving it some down the hill, all was fine until i stuck my head up and sat with full throttle just cruising at whatever speed i was doing in 6th, and the back wheel locked up completely randomly and i lost all power and lighting, everything stopped working, i dragged the clutch in and went down 2 gears, and slowly let out the clutch bit it locked up again, so i pulled the clutch back in and went down another 2 gears and dumped the clutch, i then gained power, got myself to the side of the road, let my bike cool down as when the wheel locked up the first time, the overheat light come on, i then had a look around the chain and break area of the bike and nothing, so i got back on my bike and went to ride it down the street opposite the bus stop i was in, and all was normal.
what could this have been?
i have also noticed that when i go full tilt in 5th and change into 6th at about 55-60Mph the bike always seems to overheat.
any ideas, i think that the 2 problems are coming from the same sauce.

any help will be muchly appreciated Thumbs Up

tis what i was thinking, but it seems to always overheat in 6th gear, how could i stop this from happening ?
would a change of gearbox oil do it ?
or could it be more sinister ?

Have you changed the exhaust or air filter at some point, might be running a bit lean? Check that the two stroke oil is being pumped into the fuel properly.

Unless there was something wrong with the gear box there is no reason why the gear your in should affect the bike locking up. Its more likely that its the only time that the bike is running constantly at full revs / power.

Cog,

If you're going down A roads/ motorways etc try to vary the throttle a little. On the 2 strokes sometimes when you run at the same speed for a long time heat in the chamber doesnt spread out properly and builds up in one place causing a small seize. Not sure if its this but it could be if you'd been cruising for a while. I'd check it out asap tho.

ps How many peeps were at the pole when you went then? It starting to warm up again?

i have changed my exhaust yeah, i gave it to bike tec to re-jet, and they said it was ok, but al they did was look at my spark plug which i cleaned the day before and id riden the bike slowly to the garage, so it probs would look ok with the mixture.

they lying bastards, they said it was fine Evil or Very Mad i recon they should do the work 4 free, whatever it needs doing.

cheers for the help everyone Thumbs Up

Sounds like it could be a heat seize.

Your always going to be flat out in top gear longer than you are in any of the other gears, so heat will build up more so than in other gears.

Could be down to a lean mixture (could try going up a jet size), or try a different plug (go up a grade).

Might also want to check your oil (2T) pump is adjusted correctly.

Thumbs Up

Have you changed the gear ratios as it seams not wanting to pull top and you would have the throttle wide open and over fueling & washing the bore?

Try it again but dont whack it wide open if that works lower the gearing a tooth.

just a suggestion.

You ALWAYS have to upjet after doing anything to a 50cc 2t. Airfilter, exhaust, whatever, they leave the factory designed to work with the standard parts, a new exhaust will make it run a hell of a lot differently to how it's intended to. You will have siezed it, and probably nipped the piston and barell.. you'll need a new top end, otherwise it will be low on compression, and will run like a bag of shit.

When it's fixed, don't ride it until it's upjetted, you'll need to start with a much bigger jet and work down, until your sparkplug is a chocolate brown colour.

tbh, everyone I know with a geared 50 with a minarelli engine (reiju, aprilia, motohispania) who's put a new exhaust on has had these problems. They just make the bike sound louder and cause it to blow up Thumbs Down
