Follow the battery negative lead it should go directly to earth. There is usually a smaller earth by the coil, although I may be wrong!

which bulbs are on ? power ? it seems that has nothing to do with the system , probably a loose contact on the bulb . are the crossing lights working together ? also put your battery on charge and look if the problems are still on
afterwards we can think about (alternator, regulator etc..)

it still could be a worn battery . https://www.geneva-racing.com/~alains/NSRtips.doc and look how to check your battery
for the other things it's probably bad contacts on the bulbs (oxyde) but tell me , when you press start , do you hear your starter running fast or just a "clac" ?
this starter is special because if you've not enough voltage in your battery the gear will not engage the flywheel . i suggest that you use leads from a car battery to see if your starter works . if it not works look my file to make a DIY repair

which year is your bike and is it a uk specs ?
when you put key on ,can you define where this noise comes from?
could be the starter relay (follow the starter wiring it's in a kind of protection)

when you press start do you hear your engine turning ?
if not , do hear the starter turning fast without engaging the flywheel ?
if not , do you hear just a slight electrical knock
