Took my little bro there for breakfast this morning, the sausage and egg bagels are delicious!

Quite happy to scoff the double quarter pounders all day long too - can take or leave the rest though. It's not the best food, but it's quick and fairly cheap, and I find it more satisfying and not much worse for you than the swanky sandwiches you find in town centres these days.

Subway by a long way Thumbs Up

Although I must admit, the sub in that picture does look a bit rank, but in real life you can't beat them.

Why? Is it just the taste, or what? The food in there is certainly 10 times fresher than a McDonalds, and it's considerably healthier, depending on what you buy.

Had a sickener of MuckyD's over the years, and now if my son wants to go, I just have Diet Coke or a McFlurry. IMO all the cooked/lukewarm food is just processed junk, so I'd be glad to see the beginning of the end.

VERY occasionally I'll have a Burger King bacon double cheeseburger or KFC chicken at a real push, but still hate the processed fries... and it's usually an absolute last resort Sick

There's also a new Subway place round the corner from my office, but the opinions I've heard of the place so far are not good, so I haven't tried it yet

McDonalds has always been crap, thats whats good about it. They've been MORE crap since they tried to convince us they are healthy.

I am SO not going to eat muesli at McDonalds or whatever the fuck else they try and palm off as healthy. All those stupid muffins and bagels for breakfast shit.

And what is McDonalds Salads about? Bah.

They're good at crap junk food. Big Macs, Filet of Fish, etc. They should stick to that. Then they wouldnt have lost so much European trade, pandering to healthy lifestyles. They weren't invented for healthy lifestyles.

Mind you, the Leytonstone branch which has a little sort of coffee bar type arrangement where you can get (McDonalds version of) fancy European coffee and huge pieces of chocolate fudge cake is kind of cool.

THREE hashbrowns and a bacon and egg mcmuffin please

Erm...
First off, don't want to rant, but i work at Mc Donald's. I'm not a Vicky Pollard type (yes, thats how it's spelt) and I resent the implication that seems to point to that either staff or clientele are solely chavs. Actually, there's more middle aged people who eat there, or people with little kids wanting 'Happy' meals.
Kinda annoys me a bit, I'm a university student and it's always either that I'm too good too work there (says uni friends) or clearly too retarded to have a 'real' career direction (customers).
Did you know that a store manager's salary is £40k? Thought not.
I wanted to be a university lecturer....salary's just under £25k. For another 5 years or so at university, seems hardly worth it just to be outdone by mc Donald's 'skanks' as everyone seems to think we are.
And food....well, actually, the deli sandwiches we do sell much better than half the other stuff on our menus. Some of them have less than 5% fat, so so much for the healthy option being what brings the company down. I'd say its prolly competition...BK's triples absolutely wipe the floor with any offers we have currently....they also have a good TV marketing campaign, what with the 'a very generous King' thing, and all those people singing 'It's only 1.99..." End of the day, fast food is a very competitive market...seen those KFC Wicked Zinger meals for £3.99? You get a chicken burger, hot wings, drink, beans, fries....a deli sandwich meal is £4.19 for a chilli chicken one with fries and a drink. Go figure.
So while everyone kicks off about how crap mc Donalds is, despite the closures, its still one of the biggest multinational companies i'm sure. It's staff also aren't as thick as eveyone seems to make out, and manager's pay beats a job i could walk into when I've done my Master's and other teaching qualifications.
If you don't like it, then don't eat it. I sure as hell don't, unless I'm working. It's KFC and BK all the way for me, I'm afraid Wink

Eh? Where did anyone imply that the staff of McDonalds are 'skanks'? The Vicky Pollard clientele; well, it's a stereotype, but it's definitely true. If there's a hangout for those sorts, it's got to be either the entrance to a Co-op or a McDonalds. They're not the only clients, but they're certainly a decent sized chunk of the market.

As a company, McDonalds has to be the most infamous example of shoddy business ethics in the world. I won't even go into that; just watch 'Super Sized Me', but you seem to defend them as a company, when all you are to them is £5.50 an hour in costs, and an extra monkey at the till earning them £150 an hour. It's not how I view you; the only people I have disdain for are those who stick there for 20 years because they're too lazy to do anything else. Management's all well and good; but to have a decent shot of a management job at McDonalds, you need some decent education; after all, you're still heading up a large team of people. And it still ain't exactly glamorous, is it? Besides the point, a middle management position at a large company is likely to have similar or higher salaries. It's not like you're promoted from till jockey to store manager.

And sure, there probably are a couple of actually healthy options on the menu; but most of them are just a fairly blatent, poorly-constructed attempt to get the healthy crowd in. The salad dressings are still chock full of that fatty, sugary goodness they love so much. And yes, fast food is a very competetive market; but at a very rough guess, I'd say McDonalds have 40% of the market, Burger King have 35%, and KFC have about 10%. The rest goes to Subway, Wimpy and alike. Frankly I consider anything which brings about the eventual but inevitable downfall of one of the most poisonous, unethical corporations in the world, a good thing. Just Google 'McDonalds' and see what hits you get. Alongside their massively propagated website, you'll have personal reports of employees who I'm sure have oh-so-nice things to say about the working conditions.

PS: I reckon Burger King should be down the tubes as well; whilst their corruption isn't so widely documented, they're probably no better. KFC I don't really know about. Whereas to me Subway are a pretty safe bet. They're not huge, and leaving aside the level of employee satisfaction, which I have no clue about, there isn't much harm they can do. When they have a virtually non-existent and therefore unexploitative marketing campaign (perhaps discounting the slightly unethical way they portrayed Jared to lose weight on their sandwiches) the whole thing becomes a bit more innocent. There's certainly no exploitation of children from them, which McDonalds delivers by the bucketload (Ronald McDonald, anyone?) and what serious harm are they doing to the enviroment by making bread and serving sliced ham? I'm willing to bet, if Subway were the same size as McDonalds, they'd be doing about 10% of the damage McDonalds does, in all aspects of business.

It can't be worse than McDonalds. I'll take a bit of rehydrated lettuce any day over some scrotum burger which was slaughtered in Brazil 8 months ago.

I haven’t had MuckyD’s for about 2 years now, I had a Burger King about a month ago and that was an experience. If you don’t eat it a lot you feel wired after a meal of that stuff. Ha ha, meal.. Rolling Eyes
My mate had a Subway the other day, I don’t eat from fast food places much until I know what its like from other people, the sandwich he had was meat balls cheese and some lettuce. TBH it looked pretty good, can’t see it being worse than Maccys.

I think it's fairly naive to say that the only reason McDonalds is closing stores (losing money) is due to the competition. The great BK adverts that xlizx refers to, I haven't seen. I stopped buying McDonalds regularly when I was about 19, and had both learned to cook enough things properly, and had left college. I'd also read Fast Food Nation by this point, which I'd recommend to anyone. McDonalds minor downfall is more due, in my opinion, to people becoming aware of exactly how bad the food there is for you, if eaten to excess. The introduction of salads, and other "healthy" options by McDonalds themselves just helped reinforce that opinion.

I do like a subway sub, but don't necessairly think they're massively healtheir. I always assume any "fast" food will contain a high dosage of sugar, fat and chemicals. Mmmmmmm, chemicals.

I'm pretty sure I'm remembering this right, but according to Fast Food Nation, a McDonalds franchise costs $1m, a BK franchise $250k, and a Subway one costs $60k to start-up. It was deemed either by the author himself, or by an industry panel, that Subway as a business were more intent on selling further franchises than they were food. So people might want to evaluate their views on Subway being any different to McDonalds in a business or ethical sense. Thos figures imply that McDonalds at least want a certain type of person to run their business (someone with $1m). Subway just want more.

Attached is a picture from the BBC website, taken during the last lot of French riots. Something about it made me laugh, but there's also the "scary clown survives" factor that makes me think that Ronald will be the only thing left to play with the cockroaches after the holocaust.
