 |
|
Hi,
I realise you've probably heard/explained this loads of times but a couple of days ago I bought a 1995 ZXR400 and today it's sadly being restricted. I get to cough up an evil £250+ for this to be done as apparently they need the bike for 2 days, when a friend of mine says it only takes a roughly 2hours to do.
I realise they have other work to do besides mine but I've also worked in the trade and know how the workload is booked in/managed and am wondering if the dealership are trying to rip me off because I'm female? The work hasn't been paid for yet so I still have time...can any advise me? Also, how does the restriction effect the performance of the bike...I've heard alot of different stories?!
P.S. I've read your rules and I hope this is posted in the right Forum
Thanks |

The works been done and I ended up paying £250+ but don't know how long it took them, the invoice just had price and parts. Performance isn't too bad, still pulls at 80mph but due to rain I haven't taken it further. Cheers for your advice ____________________ Yet to find a 600cc I can sit on and still touch the floor with BOTH feet!! |

I realise this is no good for the person who started this thread, but just so you know, there is no legal requierment to have an "fi international" kit fitted to your bike. You can restrict it in any way so long as the bike produces no more than 33bhp peak at the rear wheel (not at the crank). Its entirely legal to go and buy some washers from B&Q and drill them out to the right diameter bore, and if you require a certificate for insurance, then take the bike to a dyno centre and get a printout proving power output. My mate did exactly this, it cost him under £5 for the washers and £40 for the dyno time. Seems a hell of a lot better value than between £150-£250 for a bit of paper with no legal worth and 4 washers.
Btw you are never asked to produce a certificate or restriction to the police as it isnt a legal requirement, the only people who ask for certificates are some insurance companies (motorcycle direct definitely dont) ____________________ Bluespark Automotive - Diesel Tuning for Performance and Economy |
