I my short time here,I notice the forum seems to consist mainly of young folk, not sure if a grumpy old cnut like myself has any place.

Anyway..I have a question for ya'll.

Being,as you are the future of motorcycling, what are your bike owning aspirations?

Do you salivate after sportsbikes

Hunger after Harleys

Tremble spasmodically at the thought of a tourer

Streetfighter/big traily/retro......what flaps yer collective flags.

Where do you see the future.

My bike riding aspirations include buying a Thundercat or similar in the short-term, and progressing to a litre sports tourer within 5 years. Along the way, I want to try out and hopefully own something tourer-trailley, like a Triumph Tiger. I also want to try out a full-on sports bike, but I don't see myself owning one unless I absolutely fall for it, because at 6'3" and not being a small git by any means, I don't consider it practical.

If I know me, I'll change my mind hundreds of times by the time I reach my target. Laughing

I like this post, but it seems to have fallen on it's head. Mr. Green

Not sure what to do next, gone from 125cc sports bikes at 17 to a 1000cc super bike at 18 with varoius other bikes between. l would,nt be seen dead on a cruiser so might look into super motos (they look fun Razz ) or another big two-stroke in the future.

A nice ducati would also be nice.

First off, there are plenty of grumpy cnuts here, young and old alike, so you should fit right in Wink

For myself, I don't know what the future holds bike wise. However 2 things are obvious...

Arrow 1: I like buying old used bikes and restoring them. I get a lot of satisfaction from that.

Arrow 2: Of all the bike styles around I like naked sports bikes the most, and could certainly see myself on a bigger naked sports bike in a few years time. Although, I wouldn't say no to the right cruiser either.

One thing I have learnt is that my biking desires change with my age. When I was 18, I aspired to own a Fireblade, more than any other bike, yet 8 years later you find me riding round on a GN250 and GS500 Confused I guess the older I get, the more dull (yet sensible) I become in my choices. As it happens, I bought the GS, because it was the bike I aspired to own above all others. How times change!

I'd like to own an italian exotica as soon as i get a job after uni. Maybe a nice Bimota SB8 or SB6 is on the cards. I've always been lured in by Bimota for some reason and really do want one. Failing that, Benellii Tre's or original 916 will be nice.

But in between that my mind is still undecided. For the moment, my 250 is plenty of fun and don't really need to be hooning around on 600's just yet.

....erm, I'm 36 years old, and only passed my DAS last year, so still consider myself to be a novice, still climbing a rather steep learning curve

I've ridden a couple of naked bikes which were OK at the time, but not exactly what my dreams are made of..... and as for cruisers/Harleys etc, I'd avoid paying money for one with a vengeance!!

I'm currently considering a 500 or 600 depending on insurance, and intend to ride a relatively cheap-to-run bike until I get some no claims behind me.

Eventually intend to get 750 or 1000 sports bike (GSXR or Fireblade etc) and/or a 1000+ sports tourer.

As a grumpy old cnut myself, my aspirations have finally come to a climax, as far as owning bikes is concerned, I have my Speed Triple and am currently building a hardtail chop, my dream, now the kids are at Uni (1 there 1 next year) would be to take the missus on a few holiday riding tours, start off in europe for the first couple of years, getting her used to the bike, then over to Canada and America, then hopefully one day she'll let me go on my own, ha as if Rolling Eyes

ride safe chaps and chappesses

Get an old SOHC Honda. Cheap, common enough, and easy to work on.

My 550/4 moved under its own power for the first time in a decade yesterday. I'd previously thought like you, that the caferacer look was coolest for old bikes. However rocketing up the road sat astride the 30 year old motorcycle, I couldn't help but feel that there is something to be said for the upright arms-out riding position of a "gentleman's carriage" Cool

I'm not really sure what the future holds, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to enjoy it regardless. If it's got pistons and wheels, then I'll be happy riding it Thumbs Up

Well I'm soon to be riding the bike of my dreams:

A Suzuki GSX-R 7/11 special. Basically a GSXR750 frame with a GSXR 1100 motor fitted.

Future add ons are Mikuni RS36s, bore job, nice USD forks and possibly a turbo.

I want a stage 3 tuned and overbored RD350LC2 with RGV250 running gear, finished in Kenny Roberts Speedblock colours with someone elses numberplate on it.

As you may be able to tell from the above, I am a wee bit older than many too.

My biking mentor, Mike, said pretty much the same.

The RD would be parked next to his FS1EDX with a DT125 front end he had when he was a youth.

After my current CBR125R, I want to go up to a VFR 400 (NC35), then a R6 (or straight to a R6 if I can afford it), then to a R1.

I have always liked sports bikes and they will always be my first choice, but if I got the chance I would get a 600 Shadow as a second bike because I think they look hotter than satan's boll*cks and are one of those bike that are made to eat miles while saving you money on visits to the chiropractor and the butt doctor Laughing

Would like to build up a collection of various kit, enough so that any day of the week I could pick a different style of bike for a hoon.

I'm a picky bastard though, I'm on a sports 600 right now, I am hankering after a naked litre bike. The moment I get one I will be after something completely different.

Would love a Ducati on my coffee table though - that would be cool.

I'd quite like to explore the potential of what my own bike can do.

The ZX6R has more than enough power to not leave me wanting, and it's a bike that I wanted to progress to when I started biking 2 years ago. I have no desires to 'upgrade' to a litre sports bike when I know that at the moment I'm not using 1/2 it's potential yet.

So my aspirations are- to get very good on the bike I have.

My aspiration is to get my 906 Paso running, it hasnt run for 10 years and is virtually showroom condition, and will remain so while its in my dining room. After that my next project will be a 70's 400/4 if i can find a suitable one or maybe a duc single from the same period .... choices - decisions- hmmmm then probably sell the lot and get an original triumph trident - or maybe a 750 commando the one with the cigar shape pipes .... now that WOULD be the ultimate for me ........ oh and my mum says something about getting married someday, hope the future mrs Wavy doesnt plan on too many dinner partys - the dining rooms booked!

I aspire to stay upright on whatever bike I own and not to die smeared against the side of a white van.

Trailies float my boat, I do wish I could get them out of my system.

I am also very fond of modifications in the form of any sort of customised chop which is to say, those which are many millions of miles away from "Live to Ride" chrome, fringe or Arlen Ness/OCC etc etc ... and streetfighters can be kind of cute too.

Indian Larry was one of my heroes.

Indian Larry was a hell of a character! Its a shame how he went out but im sure he would rather that than the bottle get him. Must have been a shock for all those people at the rally when it happened. Crying or Very sad

I too am a big hardtail fan and would like to, one day, tour parts of America on one (with an extra padded seat!) couldnt really get away with it in this country as the roads aren't as straight as those in the US.

For now, my intentions are to get a few of my mates into biking so we can do a few tours of Europe each year. The biggest dream I want to do is to go over the Milau Viaduct (highest bridge) in the South of France. That must be a serious buzz riding in the clouds!!

not sure how old a "grumpy old cnut" is, or if I qualify at 32, but I've only passed my tst in '02 so am still relatively new to biking, even if I've been a wannabe since I was in school.

in terms of my biking aspirations, I'm pretty much where I want to be.

just aquired an FJR1300, which will do for most of my riding, and holidays, which are mainly done two-up. already have a Thunderace, which is 'ace' for going fast, and trackday fun; and I have a CB125 superdream which I'm tinkering with, to get back up to scratch. only thing I'd want to add is a trail bike of some sort, for some muddy offroad fun, but with all the new laws clamping down on offroad motor vehicle access, it's almost not worth the hassle.
