Posted: 20:29 - 16 Mar 2006 Post subject: Scottoiler pipes which where how ? |
 |
|
Has anyone got a scottoiler who can tell me how it should all be mounted and connected up.
I bought a second hand one off Ebay for £25 and it has one pipe out of the bottom which I assume is to feed down to the chain. Then there are two pipes on the top a thin black one for ? vacuum ? and another larger short pipe which I think may a breather am I right.
Then how do you set it up i.e. how much oil, can I use any old oil etc..
Any help greatly appreciated

Spot on. Oil out the bottom, vacuum in the top, breather out the rubber bit on the side.
Technically you are suppoosed to use scotoil. I just bung engine oil in mine, seems to be ok.
If you look at the inlet stub of the right carb, there is a rubber over the vacuum inlet, take this off. There should be a fitting with the scotoiler like a black rubber boot that has a branch coming off it (see picture). Push this over the vacuum stub and run some of the thin black hose from it to the top of the scotoiler (you can thread it through the frame alongside some of the wiring).
I just fitted mine to the frame tube using two bits of rubber hose and some cable ties. Easily acessable there and easy to route the hose but still behind the mudguard. (see diagram)
I routed the hose along the swingarm and fixed it there using cable ties, remember to leave some slack at the pivot to allow for movement of the swingarm. Then it is just a case of bending the delivery tube so it drips oil onto the chain at the 6 o' clock position. (oil hose coloured red on picture).
Took me about 15 minutes, which includes thinking time.
Just tuck the breather up under the plastic. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Just been out to have a look at mine and I'm going to have to get hold of a vacuum rubber thingy or nick one off an old lucas distributer down at the local tat yard

Fitted it up this morning, piece of cake. Used a stop rubber of a diesel injector and popped a tight hole in it for the vacuum pipe, worked a treat.
I've given the chain a good clean with some white spirit adjusted it up and have set the oiler at about half so I'll see how she goes.
Thanks for the help guys
