When I go over a bump in the road or speed bump too fast I hear a thwack that sounds like the front mud guard smashing into the underside front fairing. The mud guard isn't marked but from the sound it is just a matter of time before I crack it.

I do try to slow down enough but am adjusting from my DT which I could fly over bumps in. Also it happens when I go over some pot holes which I don't see and can't miss.

Have any NSR owners done any damage to the front of the bike on such bumps?

How fast are you going over the bumps? It could be the forks bottoming out, I don't know though. I never had any problems with the plastics hitting as I went over bumps on the NSR but I did tend to slow down for them Smile

Maybe I hit them a little too fast but not dangerously fast. But the same problem happens when I hit pot holes that I cruise over so I don't think it is just a case of slowing down. How can you slow down for a pot hole that you don't see until you are on top of it?

Didn't mean for potholes. Main roads are normally ok for no large holes in them Smile

What speed do you normally go over speed bumps at?

I had an annoying noise each time i went to fast over a bump.. drove me mad cos I had forks checked and it was not them.

I finally tracked it down when I changed headlight bulbs, it was the instrument cluster hitting the fairing frame. cured it with sponge rubber between .

When the V Raptor was in hospital the Hippy had a hire bike. We spent a while trying to work out what the horrendous banging crash was when we hit rough patches of road.

Turned out to be the lock they provided banging about under the seat

Hi

Normally a clonk from the front end is the steering head bearings needing adjusting

Sit on the bike, hold the front brake on and try and rock the bike back an forward and feel / listen for a click from them (best way to check is with the front wheel held in the air, but that is difficult to do on your own)

All the best

Keith

Thanks I'll check those suggestions out.

The sound is plastic (if that makes sense), so the mud guard could be a good one.

I was hitting some speed bumps hard (40 kmh), so I may need to calm down a bit more Twisted Evil

Ask him. I thought he hit it too fast, landed on back wheel, and went over backward. I don't know 100% though Confused

And its the same overall, hitting speed bumps too fast, be it on one wheel or two Razz Razz

I am 99% sure he said he was doing a wheelie when he crashed.
