If were intending on doing some BIG miles, maybe even europe, and you had to have an all rounder to get you to work, and do the trip, which would you choose from the above?

The bike will have to be as reliable as possible, comfy for the miles, and still cheap enough to run so I won't have to sell the house Wink

Just give your honest opipion on which you think would be best.

Cheers Thumbs Up

Didn't really think of the thundercat. Can they really be had that cheap in good nick? Would seem to be a proper bargain if so. Wink

Quick search on www.biketrader.co.uk Third bike on the list, £1499, and only 9000 miles! Only 18 miles away aswell!

Thundercat, or a CBR6 would probably be my choice. I wonder if a VFR750 comes into the equation...

ZZR600 would be my choice, power, speed, comfort and wind protection.. Steady as a rock, comfy seat and good riding position ideal for long haul.

Oh, the engines are bullit proof too.

for me it's a tough choice between the Thundercat and the ZZR.

there's more luggage and tourey stuff available for the ZZR, sinc it was designed as a sports-tourer, whereas the Thundercat became a sports-tourer when the R6 came out (as so often hapens with sprot bikes.. when something faster and lighter comes out, they sell the old model as a "sports tourer")

I have a thunderace, and was toying with the idea of trading that in for something like a VFR, or ZZR11, but at the end of the day, I like the more sporty attributes of the 'ace so bought an FJR as well, to give me both ends of the spectrum.

I'd say ZZR.

I rode a Thundercat all the way to Spain and it was faultless. Oxford Sports panniers were more than enough luggage space and the bike was sporty enough and still comfy enough.

In that list above, it's the best bike by a mile, the ZZR is a good bike but the finish is awful (mind you the Thundercat isn't the best either).

Cheers

What sort of riding you want to do?

Ie if the route involved lots of fast continentals motorways I'd be going for a thundercat or maybe a zx6. TT600s can also be good value, as mentioned.

If we're talking adventurous little back roads etc, I'd go for the KLE or similar.

GSX600F. Thumbs Up But then I would say that wouldn't I? Wink I'm coming up to 20K in the past 12 months on mine, and the only problems I've encountered have been owner-induced. Embarassed

Thundercats are pretty good all rounders. The others are all rounders, just not very good ones

The ZZR is aparently just as good, although they are smaller, which is why I decided against one.

some thundercats on ebay

some of which have no reserve

ebay is good for bikes at this kind of price

vfr750's probably better for long distance but not quite as fun in my opinion due to the handling

I have always been tempted by the ZZR, it is more than quick enough, can be had silly cheap, seems to stand up to abuse pretty well, and does all I want it to do.

I am surprised to see the Thundercat being so popular, seen as very few people actually cough up the hard earned to buy one!

Looking at getting one in the middle of next winter when the prices have dropped a bit so, I think some test rides will be due before the end of the year!

Thumbs Up

yeah test rides rule

thundercats are great all rounders but often people want something slightly different themselves

i tested about 20 bikes and the thundercat was my 2nd or third favourite and they are great value

a lot of the ppl recommending them without owning them might want something slightly different or they might have been a lot of peoples 2nd or third choice

i wanted something a bit more flickable but if i was wanting something for distance, the thundercat or vfr750 wd have been good

i never tried a zzr but i think its more of a budget bike. thundercats werent budget bikes when they were being made so they are better quality suspension brakes etc
