Bit of a buzz isnt it, I got a GPZ 500s last June albeit restricted which was good but last November got myself a ZX6R that put a smile on my face I can tell you...also a little brown stain in my pants but what the heck. Congrats on your first big bike, happy and safe riding Thumbs Up

Welcome Thumbs Up

The first big bike I rode was an ER-5 as well. I can remember the first time I opened the throttle wide, I thought it was a bloody rocket.

Enjoy the site and ride safe

Thumbs Up

I was the chesire cat when I was doing my DAS and started to ride the ER5 compared to the Yam 125 Razz Thumbs Up

My ZXR had the same effect, but was more of a grimace as the throttle felt like a warp speed controller Shocked

i thought i knew it all an my cg. now i can appreciate all the stuff i read about LEARNING to ride for the rest of your life. one of the things that amazed me is im thinkn i find the er5 easier to ride than the cg. i mean the bike seems to turn the way you want it to go with so little ease. although is it normal to feel the road markings a little more . there seems to be quite a bit of movement from the rear.....
thanks for the welcome...

Hello mate, congrats on passing your test and glad your enjoying your biking.

I have only got a CBT license, so im a bit naughty in as much Ride de-restricted RS125 no L plates etc and all the blacked out visors and all other types of exciting things which make it all the more fun not to mention the times i have took my mates big bikes out for a spin.

First bike i took out was a Honda Hornet 600 now that was awesome, second was a Bandit 600 (I did favour the hornet) then a Thundercat (By gawd I loved that bike) and most recently a brand spanking new Kawasaki 636!!! Laughing

I absolutely loved it, took it for about a 30 mile round trip, handled ace and was so so so so so so so so so so fast!! It looked the business, underseat race can, custom lights with the indicators built in to the brake system, tail tidy - the absolute works! I still dream of the day i can get my own, but until then just close my eyes and think of the 146 on the clock and pulling my first ever wheely (Albeit accidently)

not yet.. got bike tonight only topped up fuel and done about 6 miles in total. gonna put it in for service just to make sure all is straight with bike. im mechanically competent being a maintenance fitter and restoring a classic vespa but thinking a thorough manufacturers service is in order as i know jack all about bikes at the mo. i will check the pressures though as it did worry me a little. any white lines or road repairs where the tarmac is raised did seem to make the bike move around. maybe this is normal . i dont know. i got it with my cg but thought it would be a lot less with a bigger bike.

cheers 4 advice

RD350YPVS, somewhat 'tweaked' to put out around 60bhp. First time I pushed it into the powerband I found myself about a mile up the road with no memory of the journey inbetween having happened, seemed virtually instantaneous. I do know it happened on the back wheel and I do know I had to get off it and 'gather my thoughts' for a few minutes before getting back on.

Mind you, I ran that bike for a year, and it still had that effect every time you pushed it into the power band. Just a flurry of revs, noise, gear changes and blurring of the scenery.

Laughing Thumbs Up

My car seems so much slower since I got the ZXR, speeding in it just doesn't give the same thrill as the power and thrill whilst on the bike.

Need to save the pennies to get her fixed soon as I'm getting withdrawl symptoms

was reading the post about car drivers and how thay are always pushimg him at the lights. personally i filtered to a gap at the lights but i understand now why bikers go to the front Laughing . also i hope i get no more cars overtaking me when im doing 35-40 in a 40 uphill. i get the feeling i could do 30 now and they would stay right where they belong. hoping they try it again. at least i always had the decency to stay behind bikers even if they were on 50cc scoots.

The only big bike I have ridden so far is the training school's ER5's.
And I loved it!
It may not be fast by bike standards, but it certainly feels good to me. It's a completely different feeling from driving a car. I can't believe I have missed out all these years when I could have been on a bike Wink

I can't wait til I pass my test so I can take my GPZ500S out Very Happy

I have heard people say that you can get bored of "first bike" type bikes (like the GPZ500S!) quite quickly after you pass your test.

Gemma I know what you mean about getting bored as thats what everyone said to me. But at the end of the day these bikes will sell easily so you can upgrade to a bigger bike at a later date.
I trained on a gs500 and that was good fun Thumbs Up

It has taken me seven years to feel that I am pushing my GPZ500 harder than it can cope with. I now get the back-end shimmying quite a lot and the brakes fading on a hard thrash but it has taken some time to reach this.

Yea the ER5 is a great bike no doubt about it. Love the smooth power spread it has. Handles superbly as well. As for getting bored with it quickly, you've just gotta be imaginative. Until you can thrash the bollocks off it through every corner you wont be bored Thumbs Up Bikes that handle well are always fun to ride.

I went from a donkey 110cc (four stroke) to my 400 bandit and whoar, the difference. The rush you get from it is awsome. The second it hit the 8000 rpm it just seemed to take off Shocked
I can't stress enough to my friends on L-plates how worth while it is doing your test. Thumbs Up

Congratulations on the test pass! Thumbs Up

When I passed, I had a gpz550 for a couple of weeks till I killed it (through neglect & abuse). Went up to the local bike dealers intent on getting another bike, ended up test riding a Hayabusa.

I remember pulling out of the dealership and heading through an industrial estate very carefully aware that I was on a fairly powerful bike.

Got onto a clear duel carriageway, I've never seen a speedo climb so fast in my life! My mate following me reckons he heard me scream as I cracked the throttle open to full.

Bought the bike later that day.
