I take the rear seat off so it gives me something to grip, put the stand roughly in place, hold the bike up, fiddle with stand and then push down.

Confused Really easy on the SV with a grab rail Confused - I normally have a wobbly race seat unit to hold.

But then I'm fairly confident (and chunky enough) to be happy holding the bike from the rear and fiddling with the padock stand bits at the same time

If you're having trouble, some people have suggested putting some wood or similar under the sidestand so that it's held near vertical.

Then you can arrange the paddock stand so that's it's pretty much right; as you push down the bike should be held level.

I find the trick is to hook the paddock stand under the swingarm as best as possible whilst the bike is on the sidestand, then slowly lift the bike upright and move your way to the back of the bike whilst holding the bike upright with the seat.

Once you get there, use one hand to get the paddock stand roughly in place and apply some pressure on it so that it "takes the weight" of the bike, you should then be able to let go of the bike and it should stay upright. Then push the paddock stand and lift the bike up.

Yea dont have the grab rail on there, i might put it back on as my dad wants to come on it but refuses without the grav rail on (would make a difference)

im not the biggest of poeple either, i normally line it up and try but not confident the bike isnt going to fall

This is how I do it.

Put the bike on it's side stand, place the stand on the floor level and put it under the left arm of the swing arm. Gently apply pressure to the stand whilst holding the pillion seat strap and push the bike vertical using the paddock stand. Once vertical and steady give the stand a final good push and bob's your uncle.

In fact whatabout those ABBA super bike stands? ,

I remember watching a Bloke in Penryn put an Gixxer 1000 onto one of those easy , he put a couple bolts into the swing arm mount , then put this frame under neath and connected the frame to the bolts and wheeled the bike backwards.

any good?

I don't even have a paddock stand... I feel left out! Sad

Which is ironic really, as I have a mate who can't do paddock stands, yet his CG125 has only got a paddock stand, and not a side stand... and I can hack paddock stands, yet I only have a side stand!

I think I need to try to find one for my bike...

(P.s. do I win a prize for fitting the words 'paddock' and 'stand' the most in a single post?)

Ted, it sounds like your thinking of a centre stand. Different piece of kit.

Andy, it will get easier. I'm quite happy doing mine on my own with no grab-rail. With practice and confidence there is no reason why you can't walk around your bike without any stand, just using 1 finger to keep the bike balanced upright.

With the ZX6R I find leaning over the bike at the pillion seat and grasping the whole rear end with my left arm, then bringing the bike upright and sliding the stand under with my right arm. Its suprising how stable the bike is if kept upright, but takes confidence.

Yeah, sorry... realised that now... I deny all fault and blame my mate for calling his centre stand a paddock stand... it's not my fault... honest! lol.

Gixxer 100's are that light you could hold it up with one hand and work on it with the other, lol. Wink

i put the bike on the side stand, get the stand in place, pup the bike up off the stand and lean it against you and put the grips on the paddock stand on the swing arm, then push down a little on the stand and hold the bike up with the paddock stand and then push the stand down fully Thumbs Up works for me Thumbs Up

but then again, i ride a fiddy Laughing

My gixxer thou is a doddle to get on and off,but you are right about the extra weight.

When I'm working on my mate's ZX12R,this is the way I manage.

Turn the handlebars so that the wheel is slightly to the left(as you would sit on it) take off the pillion seat or cover.

Have the stand sitting ready at the rear, and grabbing the subframe through the cubby hole lift the bike slowly vertical.

Having the wheel canted to the left will make the bike less likely to fall away from you.

When the bike is vertical, just slot in the stand and lift.

A block of wood under the stand can help with heavy bikes.

That's how I do it too, another thing I do is put a bit of wood I keep handy under the side stand so the bike sits nearly level, i then don't need to tip it far to get it upright.

I find the R6 quite easy...

I leave it on its side stand, then position the cups underneath the swingarm... then I slowly lift it taking the weight on the left cup until its upright. Next when its upright, the cup is all ready to receive the right side of the swingarm. Then its just a matter of lifting it up!

I just push the cat off it's sidestand with one of the grabrails and hold it there while I push on the stand, never had a problem with it.

Takes pratice and confidence.

Recommendation put alot of cushions either side of the bike and pratice putting it on the stand, if anything goes wrong you wont cause damage and will get your confidence up.

Easy - I just stick a block of wood under the sidestand, support the top of the bike by grabbing the end of the pillion seat, then just press down on the stand. Rock steady in 3 seconds.

I'm not as confident taking it off though, usually asking someone to pull up on the stand whilst I steady the bike.

The RVF was a piece of piss. Bike on sidestand, thread stand through the hub, push down, bike on paddock stand. To take it off, I'd stand to the left side of the bike, prop my right foot by the front wheels of the paddock stand to stop them moving, then roll the bike forwards.

Hey Andy C,

Just joined and saw your question, i helped my mate with his..

I got a Gixer 750, have you got the mini bunges on the swing arm, i got them and got the grab hooks when i bought the stand.

With the bike on the side stand, put the P stand under as near as dam it, then put the right hook round the bung and then the left side. If you have a grab handle great... (i use the back of the seat cowling with the seat bit removed). Bring the bike to the vertical position with the right hand, check the hooks are still around the bunge's, push down a little, so its taught, then after a quick check push all the way down with the left hand.......done!! I put some flexi insulation tape round the hooks so they don't scratch the bike or my blue bunges, and help grip too. The hooks on the stand are sprung too, so don't move when put under..... well hope all goes well dude!! Let uz all know how you get on... the other comments or spot on too, so you should be fine.
good luck!!!

Best intentions I know, but you're a bit late. He won't be putting that bike on any kind of stand again.

But when he gets a new bike, it's easy - at least it is if there's a grab rail. Needs a bit of confidence, that's all. Just remember when you take it off the stand to let the bike go slowly over to the left (and that you've already got the sidestand down).

I nearly dropped my Daytona so I went and got one of these ( https://www.on-bike.com/products_bikegrab.htm ) called a bike grab. You wheel the bike in and it holds it upright while you use the paddock stand. You need to tie the front wheel to the grab otherwise the paddock stand will pull the bike out again.

I appreciate that some might not be able to afford a bike grab but I'm sure it would not be too difficult to fashion something similar from wood.

Once setup it looks like the pic attached:
