Hi all

As some may know, I bought a Monster 600 a few weeks ago... but it's sat in the garage. Why? My current insurer (AXA via Motorcycle Direct) refused to cover it, stating that they just don't do Ducatis. Not only that, but the best replacement policythey could do (with Highway Direct I think) was ~£350 (compared to ~£220 for the Bandit, despite it being newer, more valuable and in a higher insurance group!) Since I am only 5 weeks from collecting my second year of no claims I can't afford to cancel the existing policy so I'm just going to have to sit it out until my renewal comes through and I can start a new policy elsewhere.

Does anyone else have experience of this sort of thing and can anyone point me in the direction of insurers who look kindly upon Ducatis?

Insurers often charge a fair bit more to change bike.
Ducati's probably are a bit worse because of the status symbol thing.

Some insurance companies will accept your no claims even if you haven't finished the other policy yet if you assure them you won't be riding the other bike so won't get a claim against it etc.

Indeed - I've been on the receiving end of that a few times before. I was quite surprised this time because they refused point blank to change the bike on the policy. If it's company policy then fair enough, it just seemed strange for what is ultimately a timid bike being insured TPFT, so it's not even as if they would have to fork out for expensive replacement parts if I bash it up Confused

Hi

Try Ducati insurance. They have given my father the best quote by far for his 600 Monster.

Not sure why they should refuse to cover them. When I have looked Ducati spares prices work out quite cheap.

All the best

Keith

I've had no problems at all insuring any of the Ducatis I've owned. AXA are unusual in not insuring certain makes, I'm surprised to hear that to be honest!
Ring round a few other insurers and get quotes!

I see you've signed up on the UKMOC by the way, well done!

My insurer told me that they don't do the Buell XB12R Firebolt when I tried to change my TT600 to the Buell. They wanted to cancel the policy and charge me £650 where my previous policy cost £325.

They did, however do the XB12S and the XB9S. Further investigation (on their website) found that my bike was filed under Buell Firebolt XB12R rather than Buell XB12R Firebolt.

I called them up and explained this to them, and they said it would cost £40 to change my existing policy. Rolling Eyes

Insurers eh? Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Try Ebike. Insuring a brand new Ducati on my policy will add about £100 on my premium.
