hmm not strictly true yea a bike can lean alot further & better then a ped but when i had pilot sports on my gilera runner i was confident enough to try leaning it & it did lean far without any probs
when i had a go on a m8s aprilia SR i leaned a corner so far & fast once that i scraped the sidestand & that had shit tyres on it
id say its more to do with them being new/learners & maybe they were just SHIT ____________________ GSXR750

i like to think i can take a reasonable sized bend without much decrease in speed. as luxy said, its the confidence and experience of the rider in most cases - thats why they are on L plates ____________________ -southlondoner-

I was heading towards a roundabout in the car on monday and saw a youth on a moped tearing into a roundabout ahead of his mates WAAAYY too quick.
Watch this!! watch this!! I screamed to my girlfriend.
The roundabout for him was effectively a hairpin as it was on the seafront and he was attempting it at about 30mph !!
He was on in the lane to the right of me so I had a side on view.
He started off by swerving to the outside in preparation, leaning forward and sticking his knee out ( )
As he realised how much he had to turn, he sat bolt upright, his foot stuck out speedway style and the ped was hopping all over the place, he must have locked up both wheels and it was trying it's best to spit him off. He was visibly panicking but managed to scrub off enough speed to just stay on.
He the got back into the racing crouch, knee out sideways and continued hoping his mates hadn't seen.
It was fecking hilarious! ____________________ GSXR600 |

Its more down to the fact that small hard tyres and shit suspension make for crap high speed cornering. With some grippy tyres such as pilot sports and decent suspension you can take them faster, but pot holes are more noticeable with little wheels.

I've out run supermotos on both of my scooters. The piaggio NRG had a soft chassis, but pretty decent suspension, and cornered fairly well, it was funny suprising the boy racers when i stuck with them through any bend.
My speedfight has an overly hard chassis and suspension, but on smooth road, i've had the centre-stand foot peg hitting the ground, and that was absobloodylutely terrifying. Scooters can take corners - and a lot better than most people think. It's just the riders often get ahead of themselves, and those who probably could lean them pretty far often turn their noses up at scooters.
There's pictures on bikepics.com of a journo getting a burgman 400 cranked over so the belly pan decks out. Now that is teh hardcore l33t shizzle!

Came off mine once when I bottomed out the engine casing on a hard left hand bend. It would have made it if I didn't hit a bit of a bump in the road which caused it to catch and do a 180 spin
Picked it up and carried on my merry way
I wouldn't actually mind another scoot, they're funny as fuck when you're with a couple of other pedders all nailing it round twisties. The scoots with 10" wheels are the funniest, if the shocks aren't totally up to scratch the back end bounces up and down on corners. Saw my mate go into a tank slapper on his once (Kept it upright though!)

Many moons ago I actually got to try a piaggio ped, and cornered far enough over to dig the center stand into the road and send me rolling down the street at about 40 mph lmao! No harm done, ped a bit scratched. Were it not for the stand it would have carried a decent speed through the bend ____________________ TL1000s, KDX200 |
