Full tint i believe is but if your carrying a spare clear one should be ok. Not heard of any one on here getting stoped for it.
My instructer used to wear one
Reason is probably somthing to do with it being too dark and impairing vision. Although you can wear sunglasses etc.  ____________________ || Past: 1991 Kawasaki ZXR 250 ~ 2003 Honda CBR 600 F Sport ~ 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R B1H 636 ~ 1999 Yamaha R1 ~ 1999 Kawasaki ZX6R J ~ 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R B1H 636 ~ 1998 Honda VTR1000F Firestorm ~ K1 GSXR 600 Track bike ~ K6 GSXR 1000 ~ 2006 Speed Triple 1050 || Current: 2005 R1 https://www.adrucore.co.uk |

Why do you want to know? It is illegal but people use it and don't get stopped. Why it is illegal I am told is that when night falls your vision is seriously impaired . If you want to stay legal, the best option is to either wear sunglasses , or have a dual visor where inside you can slide down the sun visor (which is what I have - works brilliantly), or if you can be bothered then carry two and when it gets darkish then change .
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Hi
There are other issues (beyond Darwinism, when people ride with a dark visor at night), as some tinted visors can affect the colours they transmit. Not a good idea when they are traffic lights!
They became illegal around 1987 when the updated Bristish Standards were made mandatory. Not only affected light transmission but also the strength of visors and scratch resistance.
All the best

I have one, and swear by it for summer riding.
The unnamed dealer I bought it from told me in no uncertain terms that I did not buy it from them (wink wink), and he was only selling it to me as he knew me. This is a huge UK dealer, and he didn't appear to be joking! (He actually took me into the back room. )
Actually, I have never had any bother at all, even when sat at lights next to police vehicles, and the dealer has never had any trouble selling them, but they are illegal, and if you are wearing one when involved in an accident, and the insurance company find out, then who knows what will happen.
It's like anything else, might not be legal, but everyone does it and it seems to be accepted. ____________________ "THOSE WHO RISK NOTHING, DO NOTHING, ACHIEVE NOTHING, BECOME NOTHING." |

I think if you use commons sense then you should be fine with a dark visor.
I've got a clear one I wear if it's dark/night; a legal tint for when it's dull; and a dark visor for when it's bright and/or sunny. I usually where the dark one in the latter weather conditions. I sometimes carry one of the others when I wear the dark one, but not all the time.
I have crossed a few Police in my dark visor, most recently two on motorbikes and I haven't had them stop me.
I think it would be something they would use against you if you're riding like an idiot, then they would pick up on everything: dark visor, race can, small plate. Of those I only have a dark visor and I don't ride like an idiot, so far so good. |

I went to get one the other day...no problems. Of all the people I know, they have "been told" that as long as they carry a spare clear one, there is never usually a problem. ____________________ 1st bike - Honda Rebel; 2nd bike - CBR125; next bike - husband's 'blade hehehehe
