Yep, i ran out of petrol today after forgetting to turn the petrol swtich back to normal from reserve.
I was stranded in the middle of the cannock chase roads in the rain for nearly two hours untill me dad came with a jerry can.

Meh, did the same on the varadero, dad ran it onto reserve, didnt tell me so I thought I was still on normal tank...
ran out of petrol. was convinced it wasnt the petrol so sat waiting for my dad (1mile from home, he took 2hours also)
couple of guys stopped to offer assistence, guy in a porche offered to fetch me petrol, but I was like nah my dad's on his way only live near by
I'm with the AA now... they got to me in 9 minutes when the gpz battery died.
Daddy back up is free though ____________________ Insta - FemFeral |

It's not how much it's worth, it's how much damage you have the potential to cause to someone else's expensive pride and joy that costs so much!
Only run out of petrol once, following the other half back from a rally last year down the M62 (yes it was raining, in fact it was coming home from the Farmyard Party, remember the flash flood last year?) fully loaded with all the camping gear. I was behind, started flashing him and pointing at my tank when it went on reserve, no sign of recognition. Ok I thought, he's only doing 65-70 I can accelerate past him, get in front, slow down & signal that I need to pull off the mway or get to the next services. I'm on my 250, he's on a 500. Each time I tried to speed up so did he! Bastard was using his mirrors then..... So, next exit I think I've got to get off even if he keeps going, I've done nearly 10 miles on reserve and it's not a big tank to start with. Oh joy! he's signalling, he's realised.... nope, he just needed a piss! Literally rolled into the carpark of the retail park (no petrol, typical), bike died before I could even switch it off. After I'd stopped swearing at him and jumping up and down we managed to get about a mugful of juiceout of his tank and into mine which was just enough to limp to the petrol station about a mile up the road. Since then I refill every 90-100 miles without fail and bugger whoever else I might be riding with, if I need to stop I stop! ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |

Had a worrying moment on the cg 100 miles from home.. being spanked all the way there used it all up, it got me almost out of the car park, was just glad i'd not broken down! And some bikes dont come with a reserve
Going long journeys i'll take a 5L can full up in the top box, if i dont need it, or somebody i'm rideing with dont need it, somebody else might
africaqueens (afria twins, transalps, bit uber trillies e.t.c.) make a 56litre petrol tank! seen petrol tanks on dakar bikes (at least thats what i'm assumeing they are) where the side panels are, not to mention where a tailpack would go... just think, you'd hardly ever have to stop ^_^ ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Top tip. If you run out of petrol, there is usually a bit left in the tank 'over the top' of where it goes across the frame. If you tip the bike WAY over to one side (the side with the tap on), you should be able to fill the float bowls.
Most bikes will do about 1/2 a mile on the contents of the float bowls. I once did five miles on my MZ in this fashion by repeatedly stopping and tipping the bike. Made it to the fuel station. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

True, but imagine how much more petrol you'd be using lugging it around. And the difference in performance/handlign.
I remember when the CBR done its fork seals, it was fine with a full tank, and just wouldnt steer with an empty one. That used to be fun, mid ride it would just suddenly not want to steer.
Same with wheelies, alot of bikes dont like wheelying with a full tank over the front, or some are too twitchy with an empty one.
Now thats with a 14 litre tank.
