i have read a few articles recently about helmets failing or falling apart mainly takachi and similar chinese generic lids,so i am getting a bit worried about my fairly cheap Nitro 311.
Does anyone know if this helmet is a chinese type as i have noticed a few other helmets look very similar.
Any replies appreciated

Buying a 'better' helmet is down to how well your current one performs. Magazines like RiDE test helmets with a series of tests, one of which is the gruesome metal spike test.
Whilst expensive helmets tend to fare well it can be the case that some of the cheaper helmets also seem to do very well too. I have always went for 'as expensive as I can justify' but plumped for a shoei XR1000 for 200 quid after how they finished in the RiDE test.
After a 50mph highside all the rear vents fell off and it was a bit beaten up but my head was fine. The fact it fit me perfectly helped.

The Chinese ones tend be cheap & cheerfull polycarbonate (2 halves stuck together !!) whereas the Nitros are fibreglass shells.
I don't think the Nitros would wear the Gold sticker or meet stringent German and EU safety specs if they were a bad helmet.
I certainly feel happy with mine and don't buy into the designer label SHOEI etc are the dogs so they must be worth £400+
Having tried one or two of the "better" big name helmets I didn't think they felt like £300- 400 more, OK they may be slightly lighter and a bit more comfy but not that much difference. At the end of the day they meet the same standards so as long as it's upto the job of saving my bonce you could stick a Tampax label on it
OK maybe not the last bit .
Mike

I had one of those helmets (I think it is the same one, it is a different colour). It wasn't comfortable (idiot salesman and an ignorant purchaser) and the chin vent broke on the first ride, but it saved my life when my head met the ground at 30 mph.
The helmet was ruined afterwards, but it did do it's job even though it only cost £50. Poor quality plastic trim, heavy, but it worked in the crash and it was a darned sight quieter than my current AGV. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Shark lids seem to be going for 50% off everywhere just now. Just got a nice one for £67. A good cheap option if you do get a different one. ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing |

Yeah that was what I was going to say. A helmet joint together in two half, regardless of how they joined it, isn't something I'd like to have on. It's definitely the mould line. All lids are made like that, to my knowledge, it's just that the more expensive lids have the line buffed off for a better finish. ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

My very first helmet I bought and still have was the AVG TI-Tech, have had it for 2 years! *Touch wood I have never had to use it*
Looks ace and all the reviews are spot on, its costs a fair few quid though £380 when i first got it, proberly pick them up cheaper now.
Top helmet so if you have a few quid to spend i would reccomend one of these anyday. ____________________ Suzuki VL Intruder 125cc - September 2004 to July 2005
