me and my mate have just swapped exhausts. in the process, we decided to turn on the engines without any cans... the sound was amazing. my question: how exactly would this damage the bike? and, could this be replicated with some form of exhaust? twas truly a lovely moment... would love to do it again without breaking my bike!

my exhaust has a wee hole in the pipe at the minute, just before the connection for the can, and it sounds well sweet lol

i almost want to make it bigger rather than wield it up lol

Fuck all for just the once probably, heard of people removing the whole can including pipes before.

Wouldn't make a habit of it though, and presume it'd fuck a two stroke up pretty sharpish.

A short ammount of time isn't a problem..

The exhaust restricts the air flow of the engine to a degree, takeing it off allows more thgough, which isn't a problem if your carbs are set up to add the extra fuel, otherwise its runing horribly horribly lean, which is extreemly bad.. (seizeing pistons e.t.c.) the other thing is it will run like shit because these not the right backpressure (a 2stroke would be at about half power or less, a four stroke will not be helped either)

A straight through pipe is just that, no obstruction, drain pipes.. thats as loud as you will get, shorter the louder, a mate had a trike that had stright through pipes (front end of a cx650) the noise peeled the enamel off your teeth, at idle it was noiseyer (the sound was lovely) open the throttle and say bye to your head.. it would oddly pass an mot without any trouble...

I had to change a seal on my transalp exhaust, that was the most impressive noise ive ever hered an engine make ever it was bootiful..

i would have thought it would make the bike run lean so you could burn a hole in a piston if you did it long enough

but you could change the jetting so it was no longer running lean

Also mind the air needs to be getting through the filter too.. afaik if the pipe is too short air can be pushed back into the cylinder??

There are bikes that run with no filter, but probably not very often (or for very long)

I was thinking of sticking a K&N in my CG for a laugh, as there's a plastic cover on the airbox, which is then covered by the side panel...

Well my bike tops out at 60mph indicated (So prolly about 53mph) and should be going at least a tad faster than that...

I'm fucked for ideas as to what's wrong with it

I can safely say the cg will do an absoloute maximum of indicated 67, down a HUGE (like two mile) hill with a tailwind, and tats as fast as i'd like to make it go because it REALLY didn't like it!

A 125-4stroke twin will just about make indicated 70 apparently..

Been there done that, wihtout a licence an nsr125 will get you going faster reasonably relyably, otherwise its time to take a trip to the test center and ask nicely for one of them bits of paper
