 |

I've got a pair of TZR125 wheels and I've started to fit them to my GS125.
They dont seem too far off but I'm just trying to sort out the spacers at the minute on the back wheel.
I've attached pictures of the original sprocket and the new wheel.
On the original one there is a rubber thing that sits on top of the bearing and then the spacer sits inside of it and I'm wondering if there is something missing from the new wheel? ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

They're not going to fit without new spacers, I can get them made.
They're both drum brakes and there's not too much difference from where the cable goes so that's not too bad.
I've drawn a spacer here that will sit on top of the bearing and come out as long as I need it to.
Can anyone tell me if it looks ok or not? ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

I need to make the studs longer to fit a spacer beneath the sprocket.
Anyone got any ideas on to how make the studs longer or will it be a case of cutting them off and welding on new ones?
The sprocket will be sitting past the bit of the wheel that goes through it if I put this spacer in. Will I need to sort something out for this aswell? ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

The studs will be screwed in, unscrew them and you will be able to fit longer ones if you want. Either put two nuts on the stud and unscrew it using the bottom one or buy a stud extractor tool.
This could be problematic though, the sprocket is usually held square on the carrier by having a tight fit over a 'lip' on the casting. Putting a spacer in under it would remove this and make it very difficult to get the sprocket exactly square with the wheel.
If it is just a small amount, you might be better having a slightly bigger spacer made to sit on the inside of the sprocket carrier. You should get away with this providing it is only a small amount. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Is this the lip (circled in photo) the sprocket sits on that you were talking about?
Should I get spacers made the same shape as that so the sprocket will sit on better? I need to bring the sprocket out 8mm.
Does the bit that the bearing is sitting in help hold it square?
There is a groove cut around it for a circlip to sit infront of the sprocket and when the sprocket is moved out the circlip wont be there. ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

Had a look at the studs and they look like they aren't screwed in.
Tried putting on 2 nuts to try and screw it out but I've got a funny feeling the studs are imperial. It might have to wait until I get back to work and get the welder out.
Have got someone to try and find me a new sprocket so I can get to cutting that one up. Do the wheel and the chain need to be bang on center or will 1 or 2mm not matter?
Can't wait until I get the new forks, this is going to be hassle ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

I am no expert. I landed up taking the wheel and ther bike to a mate who is handy with a lathe and getting him to set it up in the end. He could make the spacers there and then rather than me trying to measure then draw them.
With hindsight, it would have been far simpler to have a new rim built onto the hub as they were wire wheels.
Incidentally, I had a good reason for changing the wheels. I had a 21" wheel and wanted a 17" so I could fit better tyres like Gaz said. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Sprocket is wrecked, shoes are done and the bearings have seen better days aswell, that's why I got them for 99p each
Postage was £20 each, still not too bad. ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |
