Well my poor bikes down again, this time without me on it, It was parked outside the mrs's house on a hill, in gear, stearing lock on, in a huge space behind a punto. The woman next door walked past my bike to get to her punto, still didnt see it when she slammed it into reverse in a rush to get somewere.

Total damage is cracked mudguard, bent clutchlever, also the switch wich operates the starter is broken, bent footpeg and a snapped gear exchanger.

Got hold of her and we agree its not worth the insurance getting involved, so weve decided to get a price for the parts.

Has anyone ever gone through this and the people turned nasty about it? were do i stand towards it backfiring?

Cheers, Steve.

Get her insurance details just in case. If she gets arsey then phone your insurance company and let them deal with it.

From experience mate, get your insurance company to take care of it if your excess isnt... excessive.

He shouldn't have to pay an excess as he will be claiming from her policy.

i think it should be ok as long as she doesnt get a shock at prices

maybe get her to sign a statement that she is responsible for the damage in case she changes her mind when the bill comes

On the occasion I tried to resolve the situation without going through the insurance the other party tried everything to avoid paying up, did a runner for 4 months and even had their relatives threaten to do unpleasant things to my property, so cops had to be involved.
Put me off the whole idea slightly.

And steveh, if you go private, ensure you have your frame geometry/forks/swingarm checked for alignment and damage by somebody decent. Sounds obvious but people do forget...

If i do go through the insurance, they may say the damages were already there :S

She seemed okay about it on the phone, and seemed VERY happy that i said not to go through the insurance, altho her husband, is a big scotsman, seems okay, but get the feeling hel try stick up for his mrs.

nup sorry insurance for me either way. Or at least you need to file a report with the pigs.

Have been caught out before. They're all warm and willing to help out but when the crunch comes they try and blame it on you.
Won't be falling into that trap again.

Also had a mate who was arse ended by a truck in his car.
The guy said he would fix it up and to not claim insurance.
Later on when the time came to cough up the dough he said it wasn't his fault. So my mate claimed through his insurance and he got real dirty about it.

Fuck em I say, that's what it's for. Sorry but I just don't trust anyone with this sort of thing anymore.

She could have quite easliy ran over you because she wasnt looking and now she wants you to do her a favour?? me thinks not

She's not just some woman you've had an accident with, she's the woman next door. Get a quote (or two) from local dealers and let her see them. Then let her decide if she wants to pay up or go through the insurance.

If it was a stranger, you may as well just go through the insurance. Any repair these days will cost you several hundred pounds by the time labour is added.
