MCN go on about how they have proved speed cameras cant get bikes anymore as they have never been tested on them and give a false reading etc...

ive heard stories backing this and others saying ignore it they can do you for speeding with this that and the other type of camera's etc.....

im confused Crying or Very sad

what speed cameras can do you and what can't?

Arrow Speed Gun
Arrow Police in car camera
Arrow Back window of a camera van parked up in layby
Arrow Gatso
Arrow Them yellow cameras that judge speed over 1 mile on motorways

I approached a camera van opposite side of road yesterday at approx 140mph on the way to Windermere and im cacking it a bit, i slowed down but think he got me and they will have my plate as dont they have cameras in the front now aswell for this reason, 2 weeks to wait for brown envelope Mad Evil or Very Mad

or does someone know if il be ok?

If you were doing well over the limit you should just accept the penalty.

MCN wrote a huge article about this shortly after I was caught doing 58 in a 50, now, the percentage I could have been over 50 is very little, but you add this with the fact the camera can not get an accurate reading from a bikes rear, and I was probably travelling at the right speed.

You can have a go in court if you want but I wouldn’t quote MCN’s findings, they seriously don’t give a shit.

He should accept it cause he was doing over 140mph.
It was his choice to speed. I seriosuly dont think any plan would stop the inevitable.

if your going like a tool you wont get done for speeding anyway it'll be hiked up to dangerous driving. Thats what I got done for when caught doing 110 in a 30 and they couldnt prove a speed.

my uncle did 130 in a 30 zone (long straight road wide as fook 30mph speed limit is daft down there) any way he went straight past one of the big yellow fixed cameras and he dint even get a letter so he must of been going to fast for it to register him so u could be lucky and get away with it at that speed.

agreed if it was a cop car!

it was a parked up camera van, they cannot do you for dangerous driving. Only speeding! but can they detect bikes on there cameras?

Safety Partnership vans rarely have forward facing cameras.

At 140 it's going to be pretty hard to read and write down a numberplate.

darren: u seem to think il be safe Question

you playing wid my balls or what?
is this a true statement of camera answers?
if they dont have forward facing cameras in the vans what are all them black units in the front window?

just to clarify in case people think i was in a 30zone........
i was doing approx 135-140mph just coming off a 2 lane duel carriageway into a 1 laner round a large sweeping bend when i spotted the yellow/orange van with black back window (see pic). he was opposite side of the road so i was heading towards him. i slammed on the brakes so hard and got below 50 rather quickly and piddled passed him my mate did same now i know these vans have cameras fixed in the front windscreen to get bikes as other wise we would never ever get done would we so it surely must be able to detect a bikes speed.
i know im awaiting the brown envelope, i know i was wrong and hey i know it was my own stupid fault but the point of this post was that i was wondering what people knew the real facts about this camera detecting bikes argument as it would help others aswell as me for the future.

thanks for listening.......... Wink

You should be ok then as the camera is in the rear of the van and you say you had reduced your speed by then.

If the camera takes a reading using red shift of a light wave, then you're scott free if they can't prove it hit your numberplate. It could have hit a spoke, tyre tread or anything, and give a crazily false reading.

That camera van looks like it uses a light gun, too so if you contest that you can get off the hook with relatively little squirming.

beware people these sunny weekends on open roads they are waiting for us, im gonna keep it nippy on the bends now and chill on the straights keep that for motorways and trackdays.

First off, pretty sure that they are not allowed to catch people accross opposing lanes.
This means that if they were on other side of the road they shouldn't be able to do you.

Second, never seen one with a camera in the front.
If they want to catch bikes, they use it as 'rear facing'. Get plenty of bikes this way, just need to park behind a truck, tree etc or use some of their more subtle vans.

And thus contrary to what Darren says you can get done by one from the rear of a van, providing it's rear facing. They could get your speed from a fromt facing one and write down your plate as well.
The picture isn't a legal thing, just to clarify things and make it easier for them.

I know for a fact that you can get done by a camera facing out the back of a camera van because it happened to me a couple of months ago.

On Millbrook Road in Southampton the speed limit changes from a 50 to a 40 by the train station and guess what was parked just around the bend after the limit changes....

I slowed down as soon as I saw the van and thought that he couldn't get me because my numberplate is on the back. I cruised passed them at 40 and the bloke stepped out of the van with a notepad and calmly took down my details.

I received a NIP a few days later for 60 in a 40. The camera was deadly accurate because I definately was doing this speed!

Lucky really because I was late for work and going slightly faster than that before the bend!!

Maybe I could have argued it due to no numberplate being on the photo but I couldnt be bothered really. It would end up in court arguing over a £60 fine and 3 points and if I lost, I would only get stitched up with the court costs as well!

Camera vans can definitely catch you from the opposite side of the road as one got me a few years back. I did see it be it was just round a bend so too late to slow by then.

I've been wondering about these spec cameras for a while now. My theory that they won't get you becasue they're front facing only seems plausible. We seem to have quite a few between Newark and Nottingham now.

no one stepped out on us to get our number plates may have done it whilst in the van though through the window. hope its small enough that he couldnt see it properly. just smaller than standard may have helped.

I will know soon enough i expect!

how long till i can safely say that no brown envelope is on its way and i can get off the toilet?

if the camera was taken from inside the van through a wind screen then you can get the case chucked. as the glass can mess with the reading.

I believe you could have contested it and probably got it thrown out of court.

14 days for the NIP to arrive.

A van can catch you from either side of the road, so long as both sides have the required signs. I can't think of any reason why it would be thrown out of court.
