Sad

Left my house this morning at 4.50AM and I met Rookie at Bridgwater at about 5.30AM. We set off and it was pissing down with rain and I was already cold. We were going at quite a shifty pace as we left a bit late and my hands were getting colder. Had to keep stopping in layby's to adjust my gloves to stop air getting in. We got to some services near Salisbury. Where I had a hot chocolate just to warm my hands up!

We set off again to Guildford where we met Joe and Stu666 and we took a nice road on the way to Boxhill. As we was on this road I nearly lowsided on 2 roundabouts, but I was a bit passive as it was a bit wet on the road and I did kind of need new tyres then a few miles later I was overtaking a car and I felt the bike snaking a little of which I blamed on this wind. Rolling Eyes , finally my bike was having trouble steering to the left so we got to another roundabout and Rookie kindly pointed out I had a flattish rear tyre. GREAT! pulled into a garage about 2 MILES from Boxhill and I had to ring the breakdown service. Crying or Very sad I remembered that it was Bank Holiday so the recovery man said that there would be no tyre shops open and he was correct, I had to endure 4 HOURS in the back of a recovery truck.

The culprit was a nail in the middle of my rear tyre! Fortunately it was only a slow puncture, but had I carried on much longer it could have blown out. The tyre was extremely hot after I got off it, I was very lucky in that sense.

It reminded me why I pay for breakdown services now. If I didn't have any it would have cost me £400 to get the bike 200 miles to my house! I only paid £25 for breakdown service this year and it is now money well spent! I seriously suggest everyone get breakdown recovery as in the past 2 years I have had to ring them twice for the bike!

Kudos to Rookie for letting me know I had a puncture, I was really quite naive to put it off. Also nice one Siggi for offering some help in the form of repairing it. Cheers Joe and Stu for sticking around a bit whilst I sorted everything out. Sorry if I held anybody up or ruined any plans, I didn't mean to be writing a Mayday report this early in the day. Sad

Here is a piccy of the rear tyre with the nail in: -

Aww tough luck then eh Jon. Join the club - Thumbs Up 3 people out on mayday. I'd have rather known not to go to mayday, than being 200 miles from home then realising i cant go any further. Unnecessary shit happens to people at the wrong time.

That's just major bad luck. I've got breakdown cover on my insurance, but i have no idea if it'll affect my premium if i use it.

It Won't do, I used it about two years ago on my moped and it didn't affect my premium. Besides it shouldn't do breaking down isn't a thing that can be helped at all.

Unlucky about the breakdown mate.

£25 seems cheap for them to take you all the way home, who are you with?

Motorcycle Direct give all it's customers Free breakdown repair and recovery. I spent £220 on my insurance for this year and I have already got my monies worth.

Wave got a puncture too? Something dodgy on the roads today then. Thinking

If anything it's a bit of good luck as last week I was just tinkering on putting a new tyre on, would have been a waste of money if I did.

Sorry Andy that I couldn't see you, was realy looking forward to it as well. In fact I was just looking forward to the whole day of socialising and riding. To make matters worse the sun seemed to come out as soon as I got punctured. Crying or Very sad

Dunno really, I was up front and he was a few bikes back. When we pulled up at a Little Chef on the A21 he wasn't with us Confused

I hope he didn't break down. If I'd known he wasn't still with us I'd have stopped but it's too difficult keeping an eye on everyone in the group in your mirrors, especially when there are lots of bikes on the road.

Yeah that's a shame, lets hope he didn't breakdown/crash.

When I was waiting for the breakdown truck I must have seen about 20,000 police cars. Laughing
