Right,
I was due to receive an 'unspecified item' through the post about 2 weeks ago. The packet came on the correct day, but i was at college.
On my return i found a little slip saying they had tried to deliver but i was out etc, as they do. So i took it down the local depot where they said that the postman hadnt come back from delivery yet, so to come back in the morning for it.
Ok i though, and that i did. Went in the next day, and they couldnt find it... there was no record of it being booked back in, and no sign of it in their racking. They took my number and said they would speak to the posty in the morning, and ring me tomorow.
3 days passed and nothing, so i go back in. Get the same story and told they will ring the next day. This happened a few times...
So yesterday i take the slip in again, show it to the bloke, who now remembers me. We had a little chat and he rang someone high up, he started off moaning at the bloke he was talking to, which i thought was good - hes on my side, then he suddenly kind of backed the agressive talk off and started saying "yeah yeah, ok right, ok" then hung up.
He took my details, gave me a claim form, and put my details on the managers desk where he promised me, the manager would ring me this morning...
Well its 11.30 now, and i havent heard nothing, again. They close at 2pm and i want my item.
Basically i dont want to have to be claiming for the item, i want the item itself.
The thing that makes me worry, is that the item was blatently there as he tried to deliver it, and left me a slip... the item has "gone missing" from My House to the postal depot... that leaves only 2 places, The Van - Or... The Posty's back pocket.
Im not making any accusations here, but the item would have been fairly distinctive in its packet packaging...

What method was it sent by, recorded, special, or normal post?
And what size was it. Over a certain size, it wouldn't have been the usual postman who attempted to deliver it, but a van driver who covers so many walks oversize packets everyday.
If it was recorded, or special, then it should have been logged back into the registered locker, not the front office.
The "record of being booked back in" for regular mail is little more than some handwritten scrawl on a sheet of A4, and a sticker put on the packet, there is no alaphabetical order or anything.
IMO it's highly doubtful that your postman, the person who left the p739card (The sorry you were out card) has stolen, or taken your item, as it would be pretty stupid to leave a note, and then take it...
If you are lucky, the item has been returned to the sender, or has gone to the lost mail depot in Belfast.............
the inability for some sections of the Royal Mail to organise a piss up in a brewery cannot be underestimated enough. I doubt that theft is to blame, just incompetence somewhere along the line. |

Like i said, im not making accusations...
Im just curious as to what would have happened to it after the van had left my house...
The item was just an A4 sized jiffy bag type packet. Not heavy, about the wieght of a mobile phone / tv remote kind of weight.
It was a recorded delivery, which i thought would mean that they could actually track where it last was and find it, but aparently they are incapable of doing that aswell... The last place it was recorded at was outside my house - and its not there now.
The posty says he put the packet back in the depot, but they cant find it in there aparently. I doubt theft has anything to do with it, like you said, for him to leave a note saying he delivered it, and then run off with it, would be a bit stupid. But hey, the way its going its just his word against the post office's so you never know
Ill have to wait till i speak to them again, im going down there again in 30mins as i aint got my phone call i was promised. And i inted on making an annoyance of myself by repeatedly going in there, if not because they are unable to keep track of a recorded packet, but because of their lies and inability to give me a phone call 3 times, like i was promised ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Well, then, this is what I think has happened, a "most likely scenario" if you will.
Your postman has tried to deliver a recorded item. You were out.
He left a note.
He got back to the delivery office, and rather than hand the packet over along with his docket(s) for signatures to the chap in the secure locker - it was unattanded, and he chucked it on the desk / hatch with his dockets and went home.
Later on ((this is the piss up in the brewery bit)) something happened to the packet, it was knocked on the floor, or the next peson on duty in the secure locker, got pissed off with all the packets dumped there, and shoved them to oneside, meaning to deal with them in a minute.
meantime, the docket itself - wasn't scanned, or the postman wrote a number down, as there was no barcode sticker on it.
So, you now have a card, they can't find the packet, as it's not been logged correctly, and will probably get sent back to the sender, the reason being "it wasn't collected".
recorded mail is returned after a week,
so I'm basically theorising that, they arsed up the procedure for an undelieverd item, and after sitting around the office for a while, someone else looked / will look at it and thought/think "oh, one to send back, it's not been collected".
at a guess.

It has been over a week allready, that definately sounds probable, because the first time i went in (the same day) i was told that the delivery man hadnt got back yet, and probably wouldnt get back in time before the shop front shut up... so that does make sense.
How ever, if it is sent back to the sender, then will that be recorded? And they will have some idea of it?
Should i ask them to take a look around all over the place for me? As it hasnt been returned to the sender yet... ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

piss-up-in-a-brewery again.
I reckon it was left at the bottom of a sack. It was forgotten, the sack was thought to be empty, and got chucked into a pile of empty sacks, and onto the back of a truck, and sent off to god-knows-where on the back of a truck |

Head office being customer services?
I just been down there, the manager was a useless pile of youth. Younger than any of the other guys standing around the desk.
Told me they couldnt do anything, i couldnt make a claim against them themselves.
I suggested that maybe the parcel had been knocked to the side or something but no...
The bloke had actually been back and stamped his card in at 11.15am that was 2 horus before i first went in and was told he wasnt back yet. So he hadnt put the item in the book when he had returned...
That makes me worry somewhat as it was obvious what was in the packet from holding it. ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

This all sounds very familiar. A couple of months ago my g/f bought a blackberry mobile phone off ebay from a guy who was selling his wordly goods and emigrating. The parcel arrived here, but as we wern't in the postie took it back and left us a card. When we got home, we found the card and went to the depot to pick it up.
They couldn't find it there, but said we should leave it 24 hours before collecting.
We returned the next day, but they still couldn't find it. Try again tomorrow they suggested.
We rang the following day but it was still not there. We spoke to a very unhelpfull manager who told us we could try the local post office. It wasn't there either and they couldn't understand why we were ringing them.
We rang the depot again, this time we were told were told that we should simply report it missing with whoever sent it, and then they could put a claim in.
This was a non starter, as he was leaving for america a few days later that week.
We couldn't put in a non delivery claim with ebay as the parcel had technically arrived.
We rang the manager of the depot again. He was as unhelpful as before, and really didn't seem to care until my g/f said she was a solicitor and was going to report it to the police as a theft.
He tried to persuade her not to do this, which he couldn't, so he said to leave it with him and he would get back to us.
20 minute later he was on the phone, and he had our parcel in his hand....coincidence??? I dont think so.
More like a thieving bastard postie.
