 |
|
Hi there!
Im currently only on a CBT which expires soon. Due to lack of funds, i cant go for the A2 test just yet, so my dad has offered to pay the £50 or whatever it is for the A1 test.
Do i need to complete a theory exam for the A1 test though? My dad doesnt think i do (Despite having a full bike licence himself ) but i think i do need to do a theory. Can anyone help?
As i have a full drving licence, my dad said the theory i took for that can be used for the A1 test, but it cant, can it?

I've had a full driving licence for some time, but I still had to re-do my theory test before my DAS last year ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

Im thinking yes, but not 100% sure

Is there any advantage to taking the A1 test over the A2 test? Is the A1 test easier or some thing? ____________________ Rieju MRX 50 Castrol Edition |

Neeeeil don't do it
As others have said, the 33bhp one costs the same, and you can rent a CG125 for the day for £45
{https://www.abouttownbikehire.co.uk/bike_honda_cg125.htm)
If you cant afford it, wait till your next payday - theres really little point in doing the A1 test
And yes, you do need to do a bike theory ____________________ -southlondoner-

Ok here was my reasons...
1) A2 would cost me £400+ as i would need lessons, theory cost, rental of bike, and test cost
2) A1 would of been MUCH cheaper as i wouldnt need lessons, just a single test, no rental of bike, but yes i would need to pay for a theory... I wasnt going to do A1 and leave it as that, it was only just really to extend my cbt, as i didnt wanna pay another £90 for another 2 years...
But now i might just pay for another CBT...
What gets me is if i do my CBT on an auto, i can ride either auto's or manuals (up to 125cc) after i finish, but if i did the A1 on an auto, thats all i can ride... ____________________ chaff mans random tingz on loot

For an A2? Wtf? You'd need that all for an A1 in that case.

It would be exactly the same price as an A2, they're exactly the same apart from the qualification you get at the end

Reconsider A2, it shouldn't cost you £400.

Aye, but they're thinking of bringing in legislation to say if you pass CBT on an auto, then you can only ride an auto (There's space on the CBT cert for this)
Don't know if they're still planning that though. |

When i said A1 will be cheaper, i meant cheaper for me personally as i wouldn't really need to pay for lessons as ive been riding for 2 years. Wouldnt need to rent a bike either etc...
But yea i might just do the CBT again...
Do you think if i did the CBT again, they would have me going around cones for half a day again? Or would they take me straight out on the road? I cant be arsed with all the going around cones crap again, just want to get it over and done with asap... ____________________ chaff mans random tingz on loot

They have you going round cones again. Suck it in and do it, it's only one day.
I'd definitely reccommend lessons before you take any sort of test. You may be able to ride, but do you know how to pass the test? An instructor will give you tips on what the examiner's looking for, where he wants you positioned, where he'll take you. You'll be able to go and practice your U-turn where you'll do it on the test etc etc.
Rob: The way you worded it sounded like you referred to taking your A2 on a 46bhp bike, since the question you quoted was discussing the differences between A1 and A2. ____________________ My bike: Suzuki Bandit 600 (33bhp)
