The rear sprocket has some play, its the rubber inserts which i think are the problem as its easy to see the play , going to be renewing the sprockets and chain this week anyway, but would like also to get new rubber inserts, as per usual need some help to locate them for a Yamaha 1989 xj600 pre diversion!... Will try the dealer tomorow, any idea also how much this is likely to cost? Wink

Dont know about Yamaha ones, but honda ones are about 3 to 5 quid each, (about £12-15 a set) it might help your search if you call them cush drive rubbers - LM spares do them for all types of japanese bikes, if you have the part number you'll stand more chance than just the model number of your bike as these type of components are often used on a number of models within the range.

Hells bells just saw theyre £40 for a set for an R1

As above, they're called Cush Drive rubbers, try your local bike shop, they may need to order them but they will be able to get them.

Incase you didn't know, the sprocket will have play in it as the rubbers allow it to move, puts less stress through the transmission when you pit the bike in gear. Unless of course there is excessive play blah etc Smile

You'll also find that a lot of cush drive rubbers will be back to exactly the same as they were after a couple of hundred miles, leaving you wondering why you forked out for new ones.

It is common practice to pad the existing ones out using slices of inner tube to take up the slack. Works fine, costs nothing but time Thumbs Up. Both my kawasakis have this done

Get some new ones. Try Fowlers in Bristol. They are yam dealers.

I replaced the cush rubbers on the ZZR a while ago - they cost me about £4 each. The rubber innertube sounds like a good idea though Thumbs Up
Not matter what you decide, make sure you do it sooner rather than later. Leave it too long and you can mess up you bearings (trust me, I've been there).
