Spring pullers.

They're the sort of trivial tool that cost nothing but you really appreciate when you're trying to get an exhaust together. Fuck knows where my last one went so I bought two more, just to be sure Smile

Another set of ear buds.

When I lost the right one about six months ago, I got vaguely annoyed.
But I continued on with the left one, I don't mind a bit of mono and besides, I've been listening to Steven Fry in the last couple of audiobooks, and he would be WAY TOO MUCH in stereo anyway.

But I couldnt work out why the sound had decreased and I couldn't work out how to fix it.
Turns out the left one decreases the sound and the right one increases it.

Brick Wall

Nobody TELLS YOU these things when you buy something from the internet these days! I mean whoever really does RTFM...? Laughing

A 2016 Yamaha Tracer 700 with SatNav, top-box and panniers - along with numerous Aliexpress bits n bobs for it including:

Windscreen spoiler/extension.
Front fender.
Rear mudguard extension.
Mesh seat cover.

...and of course red valve caps!

I stay away from metallic dust caps ever since I put a set of colour-matched Jaguar ones on my Jaguar and they proceeded to weld themselves (figuritively) to the valves through bi-metallic corrosion.

Never again. Plastic caps for me only.

I've had similar happen too. A touch of magic GT85 on the threads does the job.

I'm also somewhat concerned about the whole 'pour hard' instruction.

TAT. Yes tat in capital letters.

Chinese high speed drill bits to be precise. 50 of small sizes from 0.5mm to 5mm from Temu. Embarassed In my defense they were cheap and given my propensity to break the drill bits of that size rather than blunt them I thought, why not.

What a stupid cvnt I is. On opening the packet, ok, titanium coated, nice. No it's not, on inspevtion not so nice gold paint. I then just knew I'd been conned out of a fiver Evil or Very Mad . What sizes are they? fcuk knows as theres nothing on the shank so out comes the vernier. Chortle, 10 drills in the same packet which I'm presuming are meant to be 2mm. 1.9 to 2.2 Laughing I even went and dug out the micrometer to check, yep, a variation across them of 0.2mm using the mike.

So on to a test. An ally plate that I wanted some 3mm holes in. It was 4mm thick and said drill was pretty shagged after 3 holes. In aluminium? give me a break.

Is there a moral to this story? Of course there is. Don't be a fcuking cheap skate and buy cheap tools. I knew that, I just got suckered in by the adverts.

I also bought some plastic trim retainers for wifies Megane cabriolet. I break them regularly when changing the headlamp bulbs because of Renaults utterly stupid arrangement to get to the back of the headlights. These I must admit were more successful. 40 for £6 and they actually fit.

So the moral is, Temu is shittier than Ali Express and I never thought I'd be saying that.

I did the same with my ground anchor. Bought a chinese rotary hammer drill. Drill and good selection of bits for £23. It lasted 3 holes then on the 4th sparks flew and the motor burned out even though I was taking it easy (drilling pilot holes etc). Was quite funny though.

I got through 4 anglegrinders doing my patio at my last house. Ended up doing the last block with a hammer and chisel and swapped the last broken one for an outside tap kit.

I tend to get my tat from Screwfix or Toolstation.. if it then turns out to be TOTAL garbage you can at least get some recompense, a kind of TAT insurance I suppose..

Wish I'd known, you could have used my 9 inch Makita which would have done the lot in one hit and definitely not broken.
Also, we should go for pint or 3 soon. I don't mind riding out to your way if the suns out.

It was about 16 years ago....

The Three Horseshoes in Bradford on Avon is a proper dive, which is why me and Ste frequent it. Maybe next Saturday afternoon?

30th or 7th? Parking doesn't look great on street view. If it's raining I can always drive over.

How far you going with this? Might need a retune...

In other news the saga of the handle-bar kit for my Vitpilen keeps rolling on. The old kit went back to KTM, got credited and a replacement kit ordered and... same deal, yokes are mismatched colours Sad Hopefully someone in the Austrian warehouse sees sense and allows my parts dealer to order the correct coloured top yoke and send the kit one back for a credit. Unfortunately that requires a flexible inventory system and someone with imagination Neutral

Also on the cards, there's a Yamaha dealer down in Dorset with a rolling road who will add a free flow air filter,
remove all factory limiters and make a custom map along with some alterations to the throttle position sensor.
Should add up to about 165bhp at the rear wheel and about a 20-25 bhp increase from stock. Personally I can't
wait to actually hear my engine properly. The mid section should arrive this coming week. Hardware before software.
Already got someone lined up to fit it for me although I may have a crack at it myself. Thumbs Up

Also a second hand Weise textile Jacket £25 and a pair of Sidi Black rain boots £50.

Hopefully I will have the front section for the Vitpilen turning up this week. Single cylinder so fitting should be pretty easy.

Even with only 2 cylinders on my XSR you'd either need to be an octopus or have a mate hold one end of something when lining shit up. More cylinders makes for more fun of course Sad

TBH, the hardest thing looks to be removal of the two cables that run from a servo under the seat to a couple of
butterfly type valves inside the monstrous exhaust box. They snake through a narrow gap behind the engine and
will likely be impossible to put back there without a fair bit of faffing and stripping of some parts if I ever wanted to
return the bike to stock. For now I'd have to leave the servo under the seat connected to avoid fault light coming on
but there is a little plug in servo buddy thing available that will replace the little motorised box and give me a tiny
bit more room under there. I've watched a couple of YT videos of the exact same part being fitted and it seems to
be do-able with one person. When I bought the bike I paid extra for an Akrapovic carbon fibre heatshield to go onto
the current mid section. They retail for £150 so I should be able to get £100 for it no problem which will pay for half
of the new mid pipe which was £200 on the button.
