Is 90 miles to the tank (without reserve) alright for a GSF400?

Well I put 12 quid in to brim it, so thats roughly 12 litres in the tank.

Well my Bandit 600 does 160 miles before reserve. So I gotta feeling something is wrong.

Was talking to nath about mpg's on his four..

Consumption goes up rapidly as your average revs goes up, so where as i'll give my cx(500 twin) a propper spanking and it barely makes a dent in mpg figues (17litres will get me 180miles or so, more on the motorway) his cb550(four) starts drinking fuel at a shocking rate.. but then his does rev much higher!

Your 90 miles sounds faily good, but if your worried have a check of your plugs and check their condition, if they are looking a bit sooty/oily then you might be runing slightly rich (choke could be stuck slightly on for example) but dont think you should worry too much

£30 odd quid for the carbs balanced and little jobs. Your fuel consumption sounds something like mine which cant be good you been riding like a nutcase?

I was riding around gower at a speed of 80 most of the time

Even with frequent abuse to my Bandit 4's throttle stop, the bike reguarly returned over 135 miles before needing reserve. Somehow 34mpg doesn't sound right for a 'detuned' 400.

So what do you recommend? My father just said that I wont be able to get much more fuel ecconomy from it .

Somehow I don't trust his judgement.

Is it completely standard? (the standard system is a welded one piece as far as I know, could it have been replaced and therefore warrented a re-jet?) What's the engine speed at 80mph? What are the plugs like? Air filter condition? Fuel lines in good working order? Any petrol smells?

Hmm spoke to a mate who had an import bandit 400, custom exhaust and jetted with k&n filter, dispite the serveer spanking it got it still gave 45mpg at worst, 50 on a good day.. (untill a rabbit got in the way and it got mashed allong with his arms)

If you can fdind a mechanice competant enough to tune it propperly then do that, if not try a dyno..

Is it restricted? thats a very plauseable reason for crappy fuel consumption?

As far as I know it isn't restricted, but it might be saying that, I'll find out tomorrow (by seeing how fast I can go).

It's standard Craig, don't know what you mean by engine speed at 80 mph.

I'll have to give everything a check over tomorrow morning when it stops raining.

So I definately shouldn't be getting 32mpg?

Even if I got new plugs, balanced carbs etc, that wouldn't make a dramatic difference would it? I mean, a whole 40 miles difference?

It's nearly 50% extra! that means your bike is burning 1.5* the fuel it should be - seriously rich. Checked your plugs yet? If they're not black, i'll bend over forwards, bounce up into a triple sommersault and disappear up my own arse!
